Thanks in advance!

I did that on Windows for myself, and on Lion for my friend. Then I followed the guides for Files haring solutions from Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and everything worked great.

Thanks for this Skullmonkey!,

When you say 'Everything worked great' did your friend try a m4v hd file? Did that play? I too followed the guide on the URL you have given but cannot get m4v files to play...or in fact the buffer for ages...then play for a few seconds...then buffer for ages ad nauseam.

Trying to find someone that can tell me they are on Lion 10.7.1 with SMB sharing working and can play m4v files.

Anyone guys! Smile

Thanks in advance!

Not sure for m4v. I did tried .mkv files and worked smooth. Try to install UpdateBeGone from NitoTV to stop crashing the xbmc from checking Apple Updates.

Hi Skullmonkey

I have updatebegone installed...and I can play .mkv files OK...just m4v that I now can't play. All was OK on 4.2.1.

Thanks!

Sorry, I thought I had mentioned that I have already JB with the latest Seas0npass to 4.3 (Rev 8F455).

Thanks!

Hi All - I've also updated to 4.3 (8F455) and then used Seas0npass to JB. I have installed nitoTV and XBMC (First 10.0-9 and then updated to a nightly for improved(?) MySQL handling)

A few notes (I'm sure they are covered in links but here they are all in one place):

Seas0nPass

EDIT - Decided to not to discuss any JB related issues per the warnings in another thread. See this link as it does a better job than I did anyway! http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=99315

After JB, nothing will have changed on the ATV2 visually, but SSH will be enabled. Use putty or some other SSH client to attach to the ATV2 and use "root" to log-in with "alpine" as the password.

Installing nitoTV (if you want it... And you do...)

apt-get install wget
wget http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16129573/com.nito.deb
dpkg -i com.nito.deb
apt-get update
apt-get install com.nito.nitotv

After you install, use it to get UpdateBeGone and XBMC...

Installing XBMC (official 10.0-9)
Use NitoTV or...

apt-get install wget
wget -O- http://apt.awkwardtv.org/awkwardtv.pub | apt-key add -
echo "deb http://apt.awkwardtv.org/ stable main" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/awkwardtv.list
echo "deb http://mirrors.xbmc.org/apt/atv2 ./" > /etc/apt/sources.list.d/xbmc.list
apt-get update
apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2

To install a nightly:

Follow the instructions on Keith's post if you know what you are doing... BUT if you are upgrading (i.e. you have any version of XBMC already installed), you need to manually remove the /Applications/XBMC.frappliance folder as reported a few pages back (Thanks emkay!)

For MySQL:

It seems like right now it is necessary to allow the ATV2 to populate the MySQL database before anything else touches it. I could not get it to work if a database existed already and was already populated, so I just built the databases in MySQL and left them empty. Then the ATV2 would connect and format them and add tables as needed. Once the tables were there I could use a Windows nightly to do my scraping since it is much much faster. Now I have an ATV1 Crystalbuntu and windows nightly sharing my database with the ATV2 running a nightly.

Hi

Does overflow (categories) work? Or does it still not hide the items you try to hide?

Thanks,

Thanks for this. Was struggling with not being able to remove XBMC last night. Could not understand why apt-get remove was hanging as well as rm -rf

emkay Wrote:Everything is working XBMC-related. RemoteHD Plugin doesn't work and Overflow is known not to be working.

The only thing I noticed about installing XBMC:

When updating a nightly build the remove script hangs when trying to "rm -rf /Applications/XBMC.frappliance"

Even apt-get remove org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2 hangs...

So I went there and tried to do that manually - with the same effect. What worked though was a "rm -r" instead of "rm -rf".
In the first run all files were deleted and after the second runs the folders vanished, as well.

Long story short: when you try to update your XBMC via dpkg or apt-get delete the folder manually before updating, then everything will work!

EmKay

I have never used Overflow so I am not sure...

If I am using a stable version of XBMC on my ATV2 and I upload to a nightly build do I lose all my preferences and my Night skin?

No you won't lose any preferences or your library. Not sure about skin, as I stick with default, but surely you could put it back on?

Well I am thinking the preferences are intertwined with the Skins, not sure how it works?

make a copy of your existing data just in case
cp -r /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/XBMC /var/mobile/Library/Preferences/XBMC.old

Hi, a friend has just got a new ATV2 and has asked me to JB and install XBMC for him. It is running 4.2.2 build 8F305 out of the box. Should I just JB as it is with Seas0nPass or should I upgrade to 4.3 first?

Any help much appreciated.
