Hi there!
I'm brand new to xbmc, but I'm already afraid I'm at the wrong place. I'm looking for a UPnP server only, preferrably without any graphical interface.

Look slike xbmc can do this, but a) it does much more I don't need and b) I'd need it to run silently, because it shall run on a server in the basement and both remote access tools I use don't work with xbmc.

Any tips? Can I strip xbmc accordingly or could you recommend programs fitting better to my needs?

It doesn't sound as if XBMC is the answer to your prayers. Try http://www.orb.com/ or http://tversity.com/ or there are probably various other streaming servers mentioned in the forums.
