repositories installer vs XBMC SVN Repo Installer vs XBMC addons
#1
Hi,

I'm a little bit confused... What's the difference between SVN Repo Installer (http://xbmc-addons.googlecode.com/svn/pa...taller.zip), Passion add-on installer (http://passion-xbmc.org/addons/?Page=Vie....installer) and XBMC live build-in add-ons that you can dynamically install / uninstall? Are they all duplicating each other or they exist for different purposes? Thanks,

Vlad

SVN Repo was used for Camelot and back. Passion is a 3rd party repository. Finally there is the default repo, which is installed by default on all platforms.

the linux built in addons are to do settings that you would normally be able to do from an os (such as Windows or OSX)

So, does it mean that as of XBMC 10.1 (sorry, not sure if that's the Camelot or not) the XBMC SVN Repo is 'deprecated'?

Yep.. Camelot was version 9.11, addons changed quite a bit when 10(and then 10.1) was released. The method that XBMC now uses to install addons, was designed to be similar to SVN Repo Installer. The official repo has only approved addons(approved by developers, also addons that meet the correct standards(legal) )

The Passion Addon repository allows the user to gain access to the many unofficial repositories where normally the user would need to install individual zip files.

Some of the Unofficial repos have addons that may not be 100% legal in all areas, so they can not be added to the official, where others the addon developers want control of their addon's distribution.
