My first HTPC build. Some questions about it
#1
Hello XBMC Community,

I am looking for a HTPC for my new living room. It should do at least the following:

- Run VDR for watching, recording HD-TV
- Run XBMC as VDR frontend (yaVDR)
- Play movies, music etc. from internal disc
- Play blue ray discs
- Use NVIDIA VDPAU for video playback
- Consume as less power as possible in standby
- Use passive coolers where possible to get a silent system

after reading through forums and tests for HTPC hardware I decided to buy the following configuration:

Mainboard: Gigabyte H67M-UD2H-B3
CPU: Intel Core i3-2100T
RAM: Kingston ValueRAM DIMM 4 GB DDR3-1333 Kit (2x2GB)
Graphics: Asus EN210 SILENT/DI/512MD2(LP)
Case: Lian Li PC-C37
TV: TeVii S470 DVB-S2
HDD: Western Digital WD20EARX 2TB
ODD: LG CH10LS20 Blue-Ray-Combo
PSU: be quiet! E8-400W Straight Power

I have searched the forums but I havent found answers to following questions.

- The graphics card is passive cooled and the Lian Li case seems to be very narrow. Also air ventilation might be blocked by the TV card. Can anybody tell me how the graphics card performs in high load situations (HD playback)?

- Does anybody know about the performance and power consumption of the Core i3-2100T vs Core i3-2100? Both seem to cost nearly the same. Would it be possible to overclock it (e.g. to make a i3-2100 of it)?

- This setup uses the Intel stock CPU cooler. Do you know a small (passive) CPU cooler which would fit in the case and can handle the 35W TDP from the CPU?

Best regards,
