Fresh ND22 install Questions
#1
Hi Everyone,

Been messing around a bit with OPENELEC. Awesome stuff. After doing some searching on the forums I have some simple questions that keep popping up. Total Linux noob here.

Planning on setting up a ND-22 from scratch for a friend:

4GB DDR3
16GB SSD (Kingston)

ACHI in BIOS
50% fan speed
any other BIOS settings to look out for?

Going with EDEN Generic latest nightly
ddsfanart ... default on in OPENELEC I believe
dirty regions
AEON MQ3
etc.

If I understand correctly, OPENELEC supports EXT4 with TRIM. If I install through USB to the unformatted SSD, will it format as ext2 or 3 instead?

Would I benefit to load up Ubuntu USB and format the SSD to ext4 using GPARTED first, then run the installer?
Or how bout creating the 2 partitions in GPARTED, 512MB for BOOT in ext4 and the rest STORAGE ext4, then pop in the KERNEL and SYSTEM files in BOOT...would this work or unneeded?

What would the exact commands (total noob on this one) needed to ensure TRIM is enabled after the SSD is ext4?

openelec.tv/forum/14-general-help-and-su...ssd--trim-using-ext4

This thread looks like it's on the same path I need to be on, but a bit confused on how to implement it.

Thanks very much!

Basically you have to run:
Code:
fstrim
on /storage every now and then.

Thanks, if I install openelec with the patchstick installer, will it reformat the drive back to ext2/3? Contemplating if it's better to install manually to ensure ext4 usage.
