Video Problems XBMC

Question
I have an old dell P4 with an ATI x1300/x1550 series video card with DVI out, it also has a pig tail output too. I ran it with XP for years without issue, suddenly the screen was blank, no matter what display settings it tried the best I could do was get it to flicker.

So I fired up Geexbox on a usb key, under the HD mode it did the same as XP under standard mode it worked fine.

So I wanted something better and downloaded XBMC, I launch it, I can see the initial menu, then the Ubuntu menu than nothing but vertical gray and black lines.

The TV is about 8 years old, it's a 52" sony rear projection. I realize a new pc and tv would fix the issue but that's not something I'm planning right now. I'd love to use XBMC. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I think a reinstall of XP would do the trick but would rather move on to xbmc.

Under Windows XP the settings that worked were 1280x1024 32 bit color at 75 hz. Geexbox standard mode seems to be running at 800x600. The TV does 1080i or 720p.

Thanks so much,

Matt
