new AFPClient for iOS/OSX <--SOLUTION FOR LION USERS
Memphiz Wrote:There are alot of known crashes with AFP and there is no known fix for it. You could give some logs so that i can verify if it its one of the known crashs...

No offence, but I'm thinking about the other way round:

is there a user-readable list of known afp-crash-bugs? Might be easier for all, Users wouldn't have to post logs to these problems, and devs wouldn't have to check them.

Posting a log each time my Xbmc crashes would be spam-like, I tell you ;-)

Thats the wrong thinking. I can't formulate a crash like something like "Click button 1 and click button 2 and in that order it will crash".

Its more like "When changing the volume context while a file on context 1 is open - afp will crash on unmounting contexts". To trigger this crash a user could do 1000 different things in XBMC Wink.

I even don't know what to do to trigger a special crash. I just can have a look in the crashlog and see "right - crash in unmount - seen this before already ...".

Hope this makes things clearer ...

This is one of the nice crashes inside of AFP we already have seen. Just a simple "LIBAFPCLIENT: I have no idea what this is a reply to, id 4486." and then bye bye.

Sorry to say that ... but thats just bad luck. But if you want to have the feeling of doing something usefull you could post the syslog and the crashreporter log (see first link in my sig)...

Beside that - this film is lame and AFP seems to know it ... Wink

Thanks for taking a look Memphiz...

Is there something I can do to prevent or fix the "LIBAFPCLIENT" error? What's causing it? Maybe it is the crappy movies I play LOL!!! Rolleyes

crashreporter log - http://pastebin.com/fAHpyA30

Do you think it's time for me to give up using AFP and use something else?

Many thanks for your help on this one Memphiz!

Same like for emmision...

@emmision and xor2000
what kind of afp server are u using - and what kind of media and stuff (pathes and so on)... as long as i can't reproduce this crash there is no possibility to fix it ... and even when i can reproduce it chances are pretty low aswell. But one step after another. One of you both guys need to develope a reproduction procedure for me which crashes on your side 100% when doing the same stuff ... if you are able to, post it here (even by using a short sample of a special movie when its needed)

Unfortunately, when re-watching the same scene that crashed XBMC before, then it will not cause a crash again. So it seems the movie scene does not really matter and the issue can not be reproduced at will. The only reproducible thing seems to be that I never manage to get through any movie via AFP on XBMC without at least one crash.

I am running OS X Lion 10.7.2 on a Mac Mini 2011 model. I have shared the usual "Movies" folder in my home directory with password protection using Lions build in file sharing.

The nice thing about using AFP shares on the Mac Mini is that that Mac wakes up from the hibernate state automatically once these shares are accessed via XBMC.

I wonder: is the AFP client coded into iOS by Apple or does it come with XBMC? I am asking because the Firecore aTV Mediaplayer seems to be able to use AFP just fine (and I wonder if both players share the same client base).

AFP comes from libafpclient which comes from afpfs-ng. Firecore uses it in a different way than we do.

and before someone asks ... no we can't ...

Hi guys,

Need help here. I think it has something to do with AFP, Seas0nPass and XBMC Nighly buiild.

Stroy Short:

aTV2(iOS4.3.3) is jailbroken using Seas0npass
Installed XBMC nightly build (xbmc-20111018-832ca62-master-atv2.deb)
Connecting to my iMAc using AFP (through ZeroConf)

It worked like a charm for few days, and then it started crashing.

So I installed updatebegone and it seems like it fixed the problem for 1 day.

However, after that, some movies do not even start. Even if it starts, it will crash out after 2 mins

Here is the log files

xbmc.log
CrashReports

It seems like to work fine using WebDav though. So I suspect it must be something to do with AFP, XBMC version that I used, AFP on OSX and Seas0npass.

Any idea guys? Can you please help?

There's an FAQ on finding your iOS version here. There is no iOS 4.3.3 for Apple TV2.

I'm guessing you're on iOS 4.3 and Apple TV software 4.2.2 (2203) or Apple TV software 4.3 (2557).
