"CApplication::Create() failed"
#1
Just installed XBMC for Windows on a Compaq D510 usdt. When I run it, I get the following error message, "CApplication::Create() failed - check log file and that it is writable".

Windows XP Pro SP3, 512MB RAM, 1.3Ghz AMD processor.

Any suggestions?

I just recently installed XBMC for Win7 and ran into this as well. I updated my video driver and now XBMC works fine.

We need to see a debug log, though this error is almost always caused by not having the proper video driver installed, so install the latest video driver from the Compaq support site before going any further.

Assuming XBMC still won't start, open the debug log by pressing Windows-R and in the Run dialog type:

"%appdata%\xbmc\xbmc.log"

(including the quotes). Click OK and the log should open in Notepad. Copy and paste the log into pastebin.com and post the link it gives you here.

Please don't post logs in the forum as they're big and they just slow the forum down. If you want us to look at a log put it on http://pastebin.com/ and post the link here.

I suspect the problem is the Intel® 82815 graphics card. This is an old chip. Indeed Intel stopped supporting it in 2004. Your best option is to look for a cheap NVIDIA 8400 or higher card on ebay.

Sorry about the log post. Thanks for your help.

Unfortunately this machine does not have any upgrade slots, so I'm stuck with onboard video. It's a reliable old machine. I hate to toss it. I thought it would make a decent media server.
