[APPLETV2]SMB Issues - Yes I've used search and with logs!
#1
Hi,

So I just moved addresses and I updated/re-jailbroke my Apple TV with sn0wbreeze and I can't get my setup running again. SMB works fine on my roommates Macbook it just can't access my windows PC.

I've tried every post I could find but I can't seem to figure it out.

Info:
XBMC Build: XBMC Pre-11.0 GIT:20110623-62171b3 (Compiled: June 23 2011)
Acquired via nitoTV gui

Apple TV build 4.2.2 (2203)

Log file: http://pastebin.com/JajqDJ6z

Problem: Adding source via SMB results in Error 2. Adding network source manually results in time out.

Thanks!

You might want to obscure your passwords...

And I'm not sure if this is still relevant, but on the linux/xbox build Windows Live Essentials broke SMB for a very long time, any chance you can check whether it is installed on the Windows PC?

try upgrading to the latest nightly build. It as a ton of fixes since the build you have.

Still no go. The Mac share works perfectly, trying to manually add a source results in an instant connection timed out with no delay.

Please post full debug log with latest build .. Have you tried using running xbmc on the macbook and accessing windows share ? Is this windows 7 ?
The normal XBMC log IS NOT a debug log, to enable debug logging you must toggle it on under XBMC Settings - System or in advancedsettings.xml. Use XBMC Debug Log Addon to retrieve it.

Its not my Mac (its my friends who came by and set up sharing) so I can't readily do that, it is windows 7 and here is the log:

The first couple attempts I was on the VPN and it didnt work so I disconnected, the last couple of attempts I was not on the VPN and it couldn't find anything.

This is with the 9-11 nightly

What on earth are you going on about with a VPN? Are the ATV and the laptop on the same network? You really need to describe what your setup is like and what you are trying to do.

You are using username and password in your share at the moment.
Set up simple file sharing on your windows box. Get it working with the Guest account. That way no usernames or passwords are needed.

Once you can browse your windows box properly and add sources, then try and lock it down - if needed.

Yes same network. Currently I disabled everything, I set up a guest account with access to the folder, when I manually add the source I hit a connection timed out instantly, with no delay.

If SMB is working properly with guest access you should be able to create a source by browsing to the share, and access it without any IP addreses, usernames or password.

It should work like this :

If it doesn't there is still something wrong with your PC setup. There is very little you can change or need to change on the ATV2.
