OS X ViMediaManager - Media Manager for Mac OS X!
As Marius indicated, English would have to be chosen as your database language in Preferences > General.
LibreELEC 10.0.4 * ViMediaManager or TinyMediaManager | Raspberry pi 4b

Hi Marius,

Great Media manager by the way.

One issue I'm having is upon starting ViMM it asks if I want to put my Movie files into folders - I answer yes and a folder is created minus the file type and illegal characters.

This is causing problems then with Fetching Metadata. Sometimes a Metadata scrape works, but usually fails or scrapes data for the incorrect movie. (latest ViMM version)
as an example, the file named....

ABCD.2013.WEB-DL.mkv

will be put into a folder

ABCD 2013 WEB DL

The problem then occurs when a Metadata scrape commences and naturally ViMM cannot find (based on the folder name) the movie "ABCD 2013 WEB DL" in TMDB or the IMDB.

What I would like to happen with ViMM is upon initial startup (or update list), everything in the filename after the year of release is ignored when renaming and creating a new folder.

Is this simple to implement ?
I have played around with the option in Prefs - "Lookup Using Folder name" but it makes no difference.

I'm not sure how this will clash, if it does with TV Show scanning and renaming.

I know everyone is going to say name the Movie files correctly, but why when it could all be done simply in ViMM upon startup and folder creation ?
Is a fix for this a viable option ?

Reply
ViMM didn't actually do name cleaning when it was moving movie files to folders, and using the year is inconvenient, since some movie titles have a year in them, such as '2001: A Space Odyssey'.

When searching for media, ViMM does do some filtering at 720p, 1080p, BRRip and a few other keywords, which it will remove and everything after it, i've now added 'WEB DL' to that list of keywords.
I've also added the name cleaning functionality to the method that moves movie files in the latest debug build, let me know if that starts producing odd results:

Wow that was quick! I will give it a try with the problem files...
I do like the new speed on selecting Update List as well with 1550 odd files :-)

FOLLOWUP:
Loose file to folder naming is working correctly. Removing BRRip, 720p, WEB DL etc and movies scrape properlyl!!!

However for that to work correctly I had to deselect in prefs: "Lookup [ ] Using Folder name"
Seems counterintuitive ?

<title>Dogtooth</title>
<sorttitle>Dogtooth</sorttitle>
<originaltitle>Κυνόδοντας</originaltitle>
<year>2009</year>

Isn't that what you want? My file renaming pattern is the same as yours, although my folder pattern is the same as the file.

Hi Glorious1,

No luck. Still getting entries like, HuhHuhHuh? (2009) [DVD], A l'interieur (2007) [DVD], Les Rivieres pourpres (2000) [Blu-Ray]
Tried out different combinations like $O, $T, $S. Still the same thing. Maybe our versions are different?

@parannoyed?: You can always try using the latest debugbuild:

If it's just file names, maybe try disabling 'Save file naming' under the 'General' Preferences.

Marius, Is there any way when loose files are initially moved to a folder a check can be done, and the corresponding .srt file (subtitle file) put in the same directory as a movie file ?

I suppose that would then cause problems for a subsequent Metadata scrape ?

The network fouled up the schedule and aired the episodes in mixed-up order. The order intended by the creators is the order in the DVD.

theTVdb.com has a page on this issue. Their philosophy is the primary episode order is by air date, but they set up a separate field for DVD episode number to accomodate people with different philosophy.

I can't figure how to make the episodes come up in DVD order. If I number the episodes in DVD order and fetch from scratch, they all have the wrong names and plots. If I number them like TVdb, well, they are in the wrong order.

Is the only solution to humbly ask the esteemed developer for an option to use TVdb's DVD order instead of the main episode number? Big Grin

Hi Marius,

can we expect in the near future the implementation of DVD ordering choice?
Reply
@wrxtasy: I thought I had that handled, i'll have to take a look at that.

@theowiesengrund: "Near" future will be too much to expect, I do hope to make some improvements in this area, but adding DVD ordering to file names confuses the information scraper, so for now it's only added to the episode .nfo file I believe.

I believe there's an option in XBMC to use the DVD order for some series.

I have just rechecked again and can definitely confirm .srt files stay in the parent folder and are not auto moved upon selecting Yes whilst Updating List to create new movie folders.

No issues with scraping when Fetch Metadata is then subsequenty selected, if .srt file is manually put into newly created movie folder.

Ok I´m a rookie on this...

I have moved from a AppleTV3 to XBMC and now I have to rewrite all the metadata on my files because I can´t export the metadata from Itunes....

When I have a tv episode for example " Shaun the Sheep" on the hard drive how do I connect all the episodes and get all the .nfo for each episode in VimediamanagerHuh

I can see that i have a folder with that name but no episodes to interact

First, make a 'TV Shows' folder in which you place a folder named 'Shaun the Sheep', in which you place your episode files.

Second, open ViMediaManager, go to 'Preferences' > 'TV Shows', and add the 'TV Shows' folder to the list by either dragging and dropping it onto the white box, or by pressing the "+" button below it.

Third, close the preferences window, click on the 'TV Shows' button in the toolbar and then click on the 'Update List' button to add 'Shaun the Sheep' to the list.

Fourth, select 'Shaun the Sheep' in the list, click on 'Fetch Metadata' and choose 'Selection' from the popup menu.

ViMediaManager should now start fetching all the information for you, and depending on the setting 'Keep media folders organised' in 'Preferences' > 'General', it will move your episode files in season folders.

I hope this was helpful.

I should have taken a picture of it. It does not happen all the time, just randomly.
Will grab a screenshot next time...
