yepp, 14 or 15 drives max!

However, the ANTEC 1200 is max 16 HDD's so, to me,
its still hard to beat overALL!!
Fractal is close, but ANTEC wins in my opinion,,,

now i could see how a 14 HDD build could end up costing
using that NORCO RPC-470,,,

i'll investigate some more,,,
not saying its not good Tongue
i'll just calculate my stuff....

Like buy the Fans
2 x 80mm rear fans = $10
2 x 120mm front fans = $24
1 x 80mm wall fan = $5

buy the NORCO RPC-470 = $90

and other stuff Tongue

so far, i see only a $30 difference with my ANTEC 1200 build,,,
but u dont have to buy 3 x $25 CoolerMaster 4in3 cages...

i'll get back to u shortly

lol, I forgot, Fractal has four 5.25" bays. I'm gonna use a 5in3 module for £75 and one 5.25 to 3.5 bracket that comes with the case.

In my case with no extra fans Fractal is cheaper, if you have to add fans it isn't.

there you go Tongue
its almost on par here,,,
slight advantage to the ANTEC 1200 in my opnion....
mainly due to ALL drives being cooled by the CoolerMAster cages
and overall look with those cages in there too Smile

The Antec 1200 has the best airflow of any case I have ever dealt with. I can't recommend a media server case more if you want a tower. It is my favorite computer case, and I have more than ten that cost way and less than the 1200.

The advantage over a Norco is that every fan is 120mm or larger which means quieter.

The Norco's are more a 20 drive build.

i agree!

But i must admit that im curious about 'trying' a 14 HDDs build
using the NORCO RPC-470...

what do u think?

the 4x80mm fans on the wall of the NORCO are too loud/needs to be replaced?

Hi all

I was thinking about such a build too. My main concern is that the harddisks get enough power (A (amperes)). Did any one check the details (per rail) of the proposed power supply and calculate how much the harddisks need at boot time?

Corsair 500W has a single raiL
and thats what you want when using an unRAID Server...

its +12v Rail has 34A which means it can handle 17 'Green' drives!

So your definitely 'Safe' when using 16 Green HDD's with this build,,,,

On that note, if you want 16 x 7200RPM drives in this beast, use this PSU:

That PSU can take up to 20 drives.

While mine is a little bit different i can attest from real world experience that the antec 1200 is a great server case when set up correctly. I doubt many things out there will work as good. Here is my build and i can tell you that my drives never break 35ish degrees and that while working pretty hard.

Also since i wnted to keep the stock look on mine i went ahead and swapped out the antec fronts with there adjustable fans to the coolermaster cages:
