My Apple TV 2 is connected to my stereo (via S/PDIF) and to my LCD via HDMI.
The volume over HDMI is much too high, and I do not really need it.
Is it possible to disable or mute sound over HDMI?

After a weekend of googling for this very thing I can safely say no, it is not possible. It does seem to be an ATV2 thing though and not an XBMC thing.
Not sure if that means something could be done in XBMC to do it.
It really is annoying me as the wife watches the TV and the volume is always left on high, so when I watch a movie I get a blast from the TV even though the ATV2 output is via the surround sound unit.

That's exactly the reason I am looking for a solution. It's especially annoying when it happens in the night and/or with headphones on.
