DIY Ambient Lighting
OniFactor Wrote:i think what he's trying to imply is that in anything other than 16:9 mode, the black bars at either the tops or sides will "dilute" the color, by having a big black section that it's looking at..
As long as the black bars are not encoded in the video, the boblight addon will ignore the black bars.

Does boblight exit with an error or it just bothers Your eagle eye?

It exits with an error.

schumi2004 Wrote:@smajor i found a minor bug in the calculator.

I used 13 rows en 7 lines en the boblight config fails on the last led, it gives vscan 85.94 100.26

That .26 isn't possible and will make your config fail.

Cant seem to reproduce the error. Can You please tell me more (all) of Your settings. Or send Your generated preview pic.
edit: found it

It's okay now. Fixed.

Does anyone have DIY Ambient Lighting set for a larger tv? I am planning to update my tv to a Sharp 70" model and planning to try to put together a DIY Ambient light.

How many channels would I need for this?

Ah I see, I was under the impression that the boblight addon (and other methods) were capturing from the entire screen output, and not just from the "video window"

But I guess there are no problems with boblight as long as the bars aren't encoded.

Thanks for the clarification. Now I am really tempted to build it. (My wife is gonna be pissed :-)

PS. Thanks OniFactor, that was exactly what I was trying to say.

i´d use two or three tlc5940s, would give you 32/48 channels (= 10 / 16 different zones)

So....
re-reading the thread I'd like to see if I have a handle on what I'll be needing.

What I've seen are solutions like the Adalite strings of LED's that can be connected to an Arduino controller in different zones.

Would i be correct in saying that LED strips like these:
http://www.sparkfun.com/products/10312

Using these connected to a proper arduino controller and perhaps configuring it properly, each LED is a seperate zone/controlled LED, therefore getting rid of the need to have seperate strips of LED's?

I'm really thankful for anyone that can help take the time to instruct a noob like myself in the most efficient way of accomplishing this with my new HTPC.

I have an Amblone system (4 RGB Strips + Arduino Mega + Amblone software) and I'm having "tearing" problems playing video when Amblone is running. It seems to be because of Windowed Mode, especially if I disable Aero. But now, with the release of DFAtmo, I can use Amblone at full screen and avoid tearing. Great addon: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=110939

Does any of these ambient light systems support OSX with XBMC?

Any idea how to get two sources to work with ambilight system?
I do have enigma2 based STB and XBMC and i'd like to use both of them with
same system, will it be just mechanical switch for the USB-connection?

I've installed a Adalight kit yesterday and it works fine with Boblight and its XBMC addon. There is just one problem : the Arduino doesn't stop when I go into sleep mode and I still have my background lights. Is there any way to stop a specific USB port when going into sleep mode ?

Was thinking about the same thing. I always have my HTPC turned on and only turn off the TV at night. Don't want the lights turned on when the TV is off. Is there some way to make that happen? Maybe a external script checking the powerstate of the TV or something?

Another question, what kind of power is required for 100 leds? The specs says 0.3W/pcs from aliexpress, so is a adapter with 30W output enough?

Hello there,

I also have an Adalight by myself and I'm interested in your configuration. At the moment, I'm running the boblight daemon on my VU+ UNO and it works perfectly with my XBMC. My problem is, that the colors don't match and I don't know, how to improve them. Same thing with boblight for Windows.

The white color is more like a blue and red is more like a hot-pink.

I'm running Adalight with an Arduino UNO and a 50 leds string. The main colors in the boblight are configured with the default values:

[color]
name red
rgb FF0000
[color]
name green
rgb 00FF00
[color]
name blue
rgb 0000FF

I want to have boblight as accurate as in this video, where I used Lightpack. . Bad thing is, that Lightpack won't work with true fullscreen option on and if that is switched off,

Hi

I have seen that this thread has not been updated in a while.

Is there anyone out there who has set this up recently?

I am planning on setting this up with my 42 inch Plasma and my HTPC running XBMC. I am going to follow this tutorial

http://learn.adafruit.com/adalight-diy-a...v-lighting

Does anyone prefer to use different software/ hardware. I have seen lots of discussions around Boblight, it looks quite difficult to set up?

Interested to see other peoples set ups and stories of how easy they found it?

Setting up Adalight is pretty easy. Just do as the manual says and your good to go. Ignore the processing tool and use Lightpack Software (now called Prismatic) or a boblight deamon (Windows; Linux and maybe Mac) for screen capturing.

XBMC can connect to boblight just fine.

That Server IR software that is "promoted" here isn't that good. You need an additional program which is not free. Prismatic will do the job or boblight but boblight software can be a pain in the ass. The guys from that Prismatic software are launching a new ambilight device. Check out here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/wood...r-displays

That device will also work with boblight in the future. It is already supported by the boblight deamon, available for Linux settop boxes running Enigma2 operating system.
