If I helped out pls give me a +

It seems the audio is coming out of the front only.......when I do centre test, it only comes out of the front centre but as well as the two front sides.

Rears don't seem to be working at all now?

Any ideas?

In my cases I did absolute minimal futzing...

added the following to '/etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf'
#for HDMI
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 probe_mask=0x108

Also this is my current '/etc/asound.conf'
pcm.!default hdmi:NVidia
pcm:iec958 hdmi:NVidia

If you've done a myriad of previous testing try to backup those files up and start from as blank a slate as possible.

To me it sounds like your sound is working, but channel mapping all buggered. That could be all the previous work going against you now.

Ok I will try this, thanks a lot.

Also what is your Audio configuration inside of XBMC itself?

Thanks

All my settings are listed under:

------------------------------------------
Within XBMC used these settings:

That seems to be an invalid link?

Nope, now with those 2 file settings and the XBMC settings I get "Failed to initialize audio device"

Although mine is device 3, so I used the following line in my /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf file, that is correct right??

Code:
#for HDMI
options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 probe_mask=0x101

Do the 'aplay' commands outside of XBMC - before its running - work properly for all 5 channels now?

It seems when I add the line below to the alsa-base.conf file, I reboot and then do an 'a play -l" my device #3 which is my NVIDIA HDMI card is gone.

options snd-hda-intel enable_msi=0 probe_mask=0x101

I assume this shouldn't be?

That thread is wrong... my source

Scroll down to where talks about probe_mask.

What he needs to do first is find the output of this command:

Code:
grep eld_valid /proc/asound/NVidia/eld*

ALso what alsa version is he using? What version of NVidia graphics is he using?

They all make a big deal.

Also here is the output of the LS command inside the NVidia folder even:

Code:
xbmc@XBMCLive:/proc/asound/NVidia$ pwd
/proc/asound/NVidia
xbmc@XBMCLive:/proc/asound/NVidia$ ls -ltr
total 0

The output of the eld_valid doesn't look good, see below:

Code:
xbmc@XBMCLive:~$ grep eld_valid /proc/asound/NVidia/eld*
grep: /proc/asound/NVidia/eld*: No such file or directory

Alsa version:

Advanced Linux Sound Architecture Driver Version 1.0.23.
Compiled on Feb 1 2011 for kernel 2.6.32-29-generic (SMP).

NVidia Version:

NVRM version: NVIDIA UNIX x86 Kernel Module 195.36.24 Thu Apr 22 09:18:20 PDT 2010
GCC version: gcc version 4.4.3 (Ubuntu 4.4.3-4ubuntu5)

Thanks for the help everyone, hopefully we can nail this issue down!

Sorry didn't see your post.

I don't like this:

Code:
xbmc@XBMCLive:~$ grep eld_valid /proc/asound/NVidia/eld*
grep: /proc/asound/NVidia/eld*: No such file or directory

Are you using the probe_mask still? If so the comment out that line by putting a '#' in front of it and reboot.

Then show the output of this again:

Code:
grep eld_valid /proc/asound/NVidia/eld*

It should show something like this:

Code:
/proc/asound/NVidia/eld#0.0:eld_valid        0
/proc/asound/NVidia/eld#1.0:eld_valid        0
/proc/asound/NVidia/eld#2.0:eld_valid        0
/proc/asound/NVidia/eld#3.0:eld_valid        1

Yours will probably only have one line. What we are looking for is a one at the end of the line.
