Universal Remote Control -USB IR Blaster & Smartphone APP

I am sure some one might have discussed about this before and some one might be half way through it. I know it would be very ambitious. The logitech universal remote range is charging nearly £200 for a touch screen universal remote. As XBMC runs from a PC or Raspberry PI which in turn is hooked on to TV, it would be nice to have an usb IR blaster like this http://www.irblaster.info/usb_blaster.html to be connected to the USB Port. Then we have the smartphone/tablet xbmc remote control app which the user can program as they would do to program logitech universal remotes. Now with that any IR operated devices can be controlled via XBMC remote. Wouldn't it be nice to turn the air conditioning on while watching a movie without searching for that odd remote.

You mean something like this ?

Not very cheap either though.

It wouldn't be a tiny USB IR blaster, nor would it be controlled from within the XBMC remote. But, Logitech does offer the Harmony Link (I just looked on their site, and I don't see it. So, maybe they no longer offer it. But, in the land of eBay, I'm sure you can get one.)

It's defintely not perfect. It has it's bugs and annoyances. So, I don't rely on it. I have a Harmony One in that same room. But, when I come home for lunch and am in the kitchen, it's nice to be able to turn everything on without having to go into the living room and finding the remote.

I second the call for this software!
I have just ordered one of these: http://iguanaworks.net/products/usb-ir-transceiver/ to plug into my raspbmc. My dream would be to have an extra button on the iphone app that I use to control my raspbmc to turn on the tv and amp and put the tv to the correct hdmi.
I know it would be a lot of work to write and I will have an attempt at it myself, but I very much doubt I have the skills to put together something like that.

I will be working on similar issue when i get my raspbmc (quite long waiting time). I would just like to turn on and off my projector when i press on/off. I have both RC6 IR blaster and standard USB IRDA adapter so i hope i can get it working somehow.

It seams it could be quite easy using this http://www.lirc.org/html/irsend.html + this http://lirc.sourceforge.net/remotes/epson/12807990 .
