Creating the issue is not the playlist, that's what I am currently doing. Issue is that playlist cannot be filtered. My comment referred to earlier post:

Issue is that you can currently not filter within a playlist. And to enable this would most likely require massive coding as it would change how playlists are currently set-up...

Server: Asus Sabertooth Z77 | Intel Core i5 3.4 GHz | 12 GB DDR3 | 256 GB SSD, 40 TB (1 x 4 TB, 6 x 3TB, 9 x 2 TB)
HTPC 1: Apple Mac Mini (mid-2011) | Intel Core i5 2.5 GHz | 4GB DDR3 | 500 GB
HTPC 2: Apple Mac Mini (mid-2007) | Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0 GHz | 4 GB DDR2 | 16 GB SSD

That's probably an understatement because your asking to filter content inside already filtered content and this isn't available in main library either you can only filter all content in your library

To use your example you cant go to Genres then select Horror and then filter Horror by Year 2010, you can only filter the main library either by Genre or by Year not both

Current HTPC Lian-Li PC-C37 • Gigabyte GA-E7AUM-DS2H • Intel C2D E8400 E0 Stepping • OCZ Vertex SSD • 4GB Corsair TwinX XMS2 DDR2 • Corsair HX650W Modular PSU (Free Upgrade) • LG CH08LS10 Blu-Ray Drive • Scythe Big Shuriken • Acousti DustPROOF 70mm Fan

Exactly and that's why my initial feature request was to have multiple, separate video libraries. I believe it would be truly benefitial to have a separate library for example for documentaries!

Someone brought up smartlists and I explained why those are not a solution and what it would take for them to be an option.

Anyhow, still hope that multiple libraries will see the light one day...

I am going through this myself right now. I've got a bunch of documentaries, OAV/Anime, and old school Kung Fu flicks clogging up my "Movies" and then I've got a bunch of Anime littered into my "TV Shows". I'd really like to separate them all completely.

I really don't care if I have to index all of them into the main group and then move them through a sub menu in the GUI or separate them by directory; It would just make things easier for me to be able to sort things how I wish.

Simply having the ability to have more than one library of a given type, and be able to name them at the top level, would give us so much flexibility.

Especially with TV it can get rather a mess currently. And the further ability to do things like separate movies into Family/Kids/R and up or whatever your pattern is would be nice.

Then on top of this the ability to add a pin code to a given library would satisfy the needs of anyone that needs to protect family members from inappropriate content.

This seems like a big win, and depending on how the code is structured hopefully not to terribly to implement.

This is the only thing missing for me in XBMC, everything else pretty much runs exactly to my needs, however I currently have to ignore my sports and anime collections (and get to them through file mode instead) just because they create quite a messy library if scraped along with the rest.

I understand playlists could sort it out to some degree, but it really is more of a workaround than a proper solution.

If you file system is setup as so
Code:
/My Videos
/My Videos/Sports
/My Videos/Anime
/My Videos/TV Shows
you can setup a smart playlist to exclude the paths to Anime & Sports.
Then (as in most skins) pin the playlist to the Main Menu.

Issue remains that smart playlists are not sortable. So, it is not only a workaround, but a workaround that has limited functionality. One more disadvantage is that "recently added tv-shows" and "recently added movies" will not work anymore. And last but not least, if you map too many smart playlists, your skin may run out of the # of custom fields for the start menu.

Net-net, we would need either support for multiple libraries to make this happen.

Whether devs see this as a priority or even a worthwhile feature to pursue is a different topic. FIngers crossed!!!

2 methods to Sort
1)

2)

these methods were used with a playlist for my Anime. The Skin in use was Aeon MQ3

Sorry, wrong word - wanted to write "filter". For example, only movies from 2011.
