How to Power ON/OFF your HTPC using a Remote?
(2014-04-09, 21:10)-DDD- Wrote: Yes, see https://communities.intel.com/message/224829#224829 and all the other Posts at Intel Forums.

Install Windows 7, Update it with Windows Updates, Install CIR Driver, don't let The Installer of CIR Reboot your System.
Windows have to download and Install Patches after the Install of the Driver. When thats done, you can Reboot and now shouls
see the CIR and virtual HID Devices in Windows Device Manager.

Hi

I can confirm that this does indeed work! I put in a blank hard drive into my HTPC and installed Windows 7 and all the latest drivers from the Intel website for my Intel DH67CF media board apart from the CIR driver. I then installed all the Windows updates and when they were all on, I finally installed the Intel CIR driver. The MCE remote control would then work in Windows Media Center and I could also turn on the PC from S3/S5.

I then disconnected the hard drive and reconnected my existing SSD drive with OpenElec V3.02 on it. And now I can still turn on the PC from S3/S5 with the OpenElec OS!

Previously when using the CIR board I could not turn on the PC at all from either S3 sleep or S5 shutdown, but installing Windows 7 as described seems to have done the trick, but I have no idea what it actually does to enable this feature for Linux installs.

Thanks

A few things I have noticed when using my Logitech Harmony IR universal remote control with the Inteset CIR board I have. The Harmony is programmed as MCE mode (Windows Media Center SE) device. I had to adjust a setting in the Logitech Harmony software as when pressing some buttons like Up / Down and Back it would be too fast and I'd get a double bounce and it would move around in the XBMC UI too many times. To fix this I selected Troubleshoot on the Media Center PC device in the Harmony software and selected "Media Center PC responds to some commands either too many times or only occasionally." I changed this setting from 3 to 1 and it seems to have cured that problem.

Also the discrete Power On and Off commands don't work or do anything. I have to use the Power Toggle command instead which isn't always ideal.

Do any Intel NUCs allow for remote power on/off?

I have a logitec 650 and am planning on getting a NUC to replace my monster Silverstone case htpc.
NVidia Shield Pro
Firestick

For those who want to buy our bought the simerec pcs-2. You can can buy new splicers in case of a new power supply.

The splicers are scotchlock type. The red one in 22-18 awg gauge. It can be found on Amazon.com http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B004VM4WMK/ref=aw_d_pd_hi or Conrad.fr http://www.conrad.fr/ce/fr/product/73379...0?ref=list

Hello, sorry unfortunately I do not speak English, I'm going to build a mini itx system, the hardware configuration is this: Antec ISK 110, i3 4130, Asrock H81TM-ITX, DDR3 Kingston 4GB PC1600, Crucial m500

It can wake up the PC from the state G2 S5 via the use of a remote control ?

The Asrock H81TM-ITX has a header connector at (CIR 1), http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H81TM-ITX...cat=Manual, which cir infrared receiver is compatible with this motherboard?

This model is compatible? http://www.cohaus-berlin.de/shop/RC6-Inf...baj9j99ta1

Finally, what can I pair the remote control to the infrared receiver CIR ?

With CIR you can always wake up your PC from S5.
Every CIR IR Controller is compatible with the CIR Port, also the Cohaus one.
You can also use this one http://geizhals.de/conrad-electronic-ir-...21128.html

If the CIR header on your ASRock board works the same as the CIR header on my ASRock board, you may be able to get away with just wiring a TSOP4838 directly to the CIR header.

Works like a charm on my OpenELEC HTPC. Cheap too!

Thank you very much for your explanations, you've been very kind.

I did not think that the CIR receivers were compatible with all motherboards, I thought that every motherboard needed a specific CIR receiver.

I forgot one important thing, I need a receiver for use with a remote control compatible with xbmc, the CIR receiver that I've recommended is compatible with xbmc ?

The build quality is the same for all receivers CIR ? Or there are models with higher quality ? The important thing is that the receiver is equipped with movement is a good reception, I have to use the remote control to about 3 meters away.

Unfortunately, I can't comment on the one you've recommended, as I don't know it. My TSOP4838 is exposed through a small IR window in my case, and it works very well, even from 3+ meter distance. My board is the ASRock FM2A85X-ITX (AMD), and I can power on my HTPC from G2/S5 with any standard MCE remote.

Thank you so much for the advice.

The Asrock H81TM-ITX I have not yet purchased, before ordering everyone CIR receiver hardware was wondering what was compatible with this motherboard.

About asrock USB IR receiver I saw that some users have had problems: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=128907&page=2

The receiver asrock where you bought it ? Can you wake up the PC from the state s5 ?

However, I prefer a CIR receiver inner, to be inserted inside the antec isk 110, compatible with a remote control to use with xbmc

Thanks again for the advice, my intention is to assemble a system intel, the asrock Asrock H81TM-ITX is the only motherboard with socket 1150 which has the connector at the CIR. From what I understand the CIR receivers are universal, should be compatible with any motherboard.

Just to clarify, I do not use the ASRock USB receiver, I use a TSOP4838 ir receiver, directly wired to the CIR header of my ASRock board. It is an internal solution. And yes, I can power on my HTPC from S5 by MCE remote, which works equally well in OpenELEC XBMC.

Thanks for the clarification, I did not understand, I'm sorry, I thought you used the USB stick that you showed me in the link.

How did you connect to the TSOP4838 'header (CIR) ? You have soldered the wire ?

I was looking for a receiver of CIR including cable, ready for installation, you know some other model of CIR receiver complete with the cable ?

Thats not true:

(if you speak German)

No, CIR Reciever like
http://www.voelkner.de/products/27327/IR...-4838.html
http://geizhals.de/conrad-electronic-ir-...21128.html
http://www.cohaus-berlin.de/shop/RC6-Inf...1::86.html

Need an CIR Port on your Mainboard, which you can find on some Intel, Asrock and Biostar Boards.
