Do I NEED dxva?
#1
Ive currently got a PC with the following specs:

E6300 (1.8ghz)
X1800XT 256mb
2GB RAM

Im having issues with the x1800 with Windows 7 as it no longer has driver support, so im wondering if I could just switch back to xp? Do I need DXVA to play 1080p?

Probably. I can't be sure, but I wouldn't think that cpu could handle full-bitrate 1080p on it's own. Even if it could, it's not good to max out the cpu all the time.

Assuming your CPU is the 1.86GHz Core 2 Duo E6300 (not the old Pentium 4 E6300) then you'll be able to play 1080p as long as the bitrate isn't too high.

But you'd be *much* better off buying a cheap NVIDIA G210 or 220 card from ebay.
