I know that this is commercial project, I just noticed that m2ts hardware decode on AppleTV 2 is possible and may be some info can be found in media player 0.9 in which m2ts hardware decode is done.
Nothing special, if they can do hardware decode, may be somebody can implement it for XBMC and Apple TV2 would be fantastic fully charged device with my lovely XBMC, only XBMC.

PS: or may be it is possible to use firecore mediaplayer as external player to play m2ts files in XBMC with hardware decode, than how to do it on Apple TV2.

I think it is James who is the active reference in the forum.

m2ts is a container. similar to ts which stands for 'transport stream', inside an m2ts container can be several video format, three of which are mpeg2, mpeg4 part 10 (h264) and vc1. These video formats are found in bluray disks.

The hw video decoder on the AppleTV2 is call 'Video Toolbox', we get tried of typing so we call it VTB Smile VTB can handle h264 and nothing else at the current time. Not mpeg2 nor vc1. There are signs that it might handle mpeg4 part 2.

Now please explain "hardware decode for m2ts", what exactly does that mean ? Smile

I have 3 m2ts files. I tried to play these using the fire core media player. Two of them seem to run. One of them display the same symptoms as prior to their update. Haven't seen which formats these are.

From your description of the m2ts container, it may be one which is yet unsupported.

Anyway I wonder if alexdzn means that we use the progress that they have made re m2ts support regardless whether its hardware or software based ?

Is that normal between our communities ? I always wondered about that...since our aim eventually is the same. Although one thing setting us apart as Memphiz pointed out is that they are not open source.

BDMV.AVC H.264, 1920x1080p.DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 (m2ts) this file type is playing very good with hardware decode in firecode media player, but not in XBMC on Apple TV2, this is main for blur-ray, the key piont of my message is that, once more, may be such a great spicialists in programming, as you guys, can find usefull information from firecore media player files source, how to implement hardware decoding for blue-ray avc h264 streams, that what I am missing in XBMC on Apple TV2, XBMC can do mostly anything, exept m2ts, ts hardware decoding, firecore media player can do nothing in compare to XBMC but it can do proper decoding m2ts avc h264 streams on AppleTV2. Link for files from media player: -- removed by memphiz --

Yeah we would love to do that. But not open source means closed source. Closed source means - we don't have the source code of the player.

I removed your link to the frappliance since i don't think you are allowed to spread this. Normally one has to pay for the firecore player imho. So better remove that file from mediafire.

Once again for clarification. The frappliance is the binary compiled version of the player. We don't have the possibility to take any usefull information out of it. We would need source code which is not available because it is closed source.

Hope you got that?
