My HTPC build
#1
Ok guys I built my first HTPC weeks ago and thought I would contribute by putting the specs and a little demo video. Hope you enjoy.

Specs:
For the case I used my old Gateway lx6810-01 media PC with built in IR receiver (http://i.t.com.com/i/lumiere/2009/02/19/...20x240.jpg)
Remote: Noah Company MediaGate GP-IR02BK IR Remote (http://www.amazon.com/Noah-Company-Media...272&sr=8-3)
Storage:
Kingston 30GB SATA 2.5" SSD (http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-2-5-Inch-...692&sr=1-9)
Western Digital 640GB Caviar Black SATA 3 Gb/s 7200 RPM 32 Cache (www.amazon.com/Western-Digital-Caviar-Black-Desktop/dp/B001GQYYSQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1317673361&sr=8-1)
Mobo: BIOSTAR G41DVI (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6813138154)
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200 / 2.33 GHz (http://www.amazon.com/Intel-2-33GHz-1333...800&sr=8-1)
Heatsink/Fan: MASSCOOL 8W553B1M3 90mm Ball CPU Cooler (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6835150083)
I used the optical drive from the gateway: DVD±RW / DVD-RAM | Read: 48x (CD) / 16x (DVD) | Write Speed: 48x (CD) / 18x (DVD) / 12x (DVD-RAM) / 8x (DVD Double layer) | Labelflash Technology
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GT 120 graphics card (http://www.nvidia.com/object/product_gef...20_us.html)
Ram: 2x Crucial 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 667 (PC2 5300) (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.as...6820146571)
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit
I also have 2 Case fans, one is 80mm and one is 120mm

I used eventghost to program my remote, and used it as my shell also so I can load straight into xbmc. I use the gametime plugin for WMC to run my nintendo 64, nintendo and super nintendo emulators. I used the microsoft xbox360 controller driver and configured a wired gamestop xbox360 controller for each emulator. I also have the hulu desktop plugin for WMC but as of right now I don't have my HTPC online but will soon.

About 90% of all of this is thanks to these forums and hours upon hours of reading. It's not perfect but I like it well enough.

In the future I would like to add blu-ray, surround sound, probably a different case as well as the ability to power on from the remote and if I'm dreaming big, a better remote so I can control everything in my living room with one remote instead of 4 haha.

I'm also going to look into just adding hulu to xbmc and maybe Hyperspin as well and that would mostly get rid of the need of WMC.

the gt120 is between 1 and 2 years old, I took it out of the gateway as well as the cpu, ram, hdd, and psu that came with the case. The gateway had pretty good specs but had a not so good motherboard and lots of overheating problems, so I decided to use what I could and turn it into an HTPC.

So as far as what I actually bought new for this setup, I ended up only paying around $200.
