I have XBMC all nicely set up, movies+shows marked as watched etc. etc... everything works and flows nicely!

Now, the problem is I recently got a roommate. She uses it too. If she watches stuff I haven't seen yet, it will be marked as watched.

Is there any way I can handle this situation? Surely has to be pretty common...

Can I disable automatic marking of "watched" status?

You could create two profiles so each of you will have their own library and watched status

Yes, or if you use Windows create a separate user account for your roommate to use. Note that both this and Machine-Sanctum's solution will use separate databases.
