Well, T! allows you to set custom backgrounds for each home menu option. Just set a black image behind it. Sometimes simple solutions are the best.

How to use Git
| AMD Athlon II X3 Triple Core Processor 2.9 GHz |GIGABYTE GA-MA785GM-US2H Mobo 2GB DDR2 Ram | MSI N430GT |
| Logitec Harmony One Remote| 52" Sharp Aquos LED TV | Demon AVR-X1000 |

I will confirm that you are not blind, you can't turn it off or change to black.

Hopefully, ronie's near future is soon

open the TV Show Next Aired addon settings, you will find this option there:
'Enable background fanart'

turn it off if you don't want to see fanart in the tv guide.
the default background will be shown instead

if you want a black background, you also need to replace the default one in:
Settings > Skin Settings > Backgrounds > TV

edit:
eden stuff only btw.
