Hi, I read this forum since I have installed Xbmc on my Atv2 by a few months. Since now I have streamed my contents from the HD of my HTPC without problems. Now I wanted to shutdown my pc to use only Atv2 and store all my media in an external solution, and so I have thought to the Time Capsule 2 TB, because it has all the characteristics of an Airport Extreme plus an internal HD where store the media. The problem is that I have red, in this and in other forum, about problem of buffering when used with Xbmc on Atv2.
For this reason I want to ask you if, in your opinion, the problem are resolved and if you recommend it.
P.s. : I need a system to share media via wifi at home (with iPad, iPhone, and a netbook) sand via LAN (HTPC and Atv2)
Thanks and excuse me for my english

The Time Capsule will probably work pretty well now since AFP can be used rather than SMB for the protocol. Pretty sure most of the Time Machine issues came from the SMB implementation.

Time capsule isn't bad, but there's better options for your money out there.

Depends if you want the time machine feature or not. While any NAS can be used as a "time capsule", only certain devices support the full protocol that apple uses to prevent errors. I found out this the hard way by having lots of backups go bad (thankfully I didn't need to use those backups) when using a 3rd party option.
I'd have to look up what's out there these days, but I'm pretty sure there are now some 3rd party options that officially support time machine/time capsule. If you don't really need that feature specifically then you might want to check out some of the recommendations in the hardware sub-forum or even searching this forum for NAS options. Time capsule should work just fine. I've used an Airport Express Base Station and a USB HDD and it has worked great for me in the past. It's just both products are more expensive than other options, and they lack some of the controls one expects to find in a router (MAC address spoofing, QoS options, etc). |

Thank you for reply. I don't need of time machine feature because I haven't a Mac but only an htpc with windows 7 and a netbook with seven too. I need of a system easy to configure, without problem of buffering, and wi-fi to share my media all over my home between my iPhone, iPad and, most important, my AppleTv2. A Nas, with the budget of a Time Capsule, can do all these things? And if so, can you give me some specific indications? I have read about a Sinology Nas on the forum, but it doesn't seem able to share media I'm wifi. Time capsule, I repeat if it hasn't now problem to slow share and buffering, seems an all in one solution. Is there anything better with a simar budget (260 euro)?
Thanks a lot |

The configuration I created for my father's home is an ATV2 and a Time Capsule 2TB. It took a while to figure out how to fix the buffering problem, but after fixed it's working fine, no buffering problems even on 720p and 1080p movies. To fix it I activated the WiFi 5GHz and put the TC in a longer distance, about 15 meters.
The configuration is very clean and easy: http://www.lokotech.net/2011/03/alem-do-...tv-2g.html (sorry... this blog where I described the configuration is in Portuguese...)

I have read your description qith the google translate, (i am italian), but i want to ask you why do yo have decided to share the media from Time-Capsule in wi-fi and not with ethernet connection, that shoul be more fast and stable compared to wi-fi. Did you have any problem with the ethernet connection? Thanks |
