Currently running LIVE, Want to run LINUX
#1
So I recently moved to a new apartment and started a new job and my XBMC box hasn't been touched in about 6-8 months so its probably very, very out of date. It's currently running some custom LIVE script that I found here when I first started playing with XBMC and HTPCs.

My setup consists of a Zotac MAG HD-ND01 and I would love to run Linux with XBMC on top of it and not a LIVE install anymore. Are there any upsides to running a LIVE install of XBMC that I am not aware of?

Also I found these two scripts/tutorials, but they are about a year old so I was wondering if they were up to date or even valid anymore. If not, are there any guides/scripts/tutorials that you recommend to getting Ubnutu and Linux onto my Zotac or is the wiki my best bet? Not sure how often it is updated to make sure everything I need would be in there.

Thanks in advance.

hi there,

the bonus to running live is that it should boot pretty fast! if you install a full ubuntu then xbmc on top then it won't be as fast to start.

i would check out openelec as it has the bare linux base and xbmc popped on top Smile

If u want to use ur HTPC only für some media and or some emus, then an actualy LIVE Install is the way you should go for!

But if u want to use some other stuff, like a browser, office apps or something, then you should use an "normal" linux install with xbmc on top.

Thats it Big Grin

with xbmc-live, you can exit (not shutdown) to the shell and login with user:xbmc pw:xbmc then type 'startx' and you will get a fluxbox window manager. Open a terminal and start installing anything you wish using apt-get.
