Linux XBMCbuntu RC2 - DTS-HD not working on Acer Revo
#1
Hi There,

Today I wiped my Frodo Beta1 and installed Frodo RC2.
I also Installed Xvba (according to this thread: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=116996), so most of my Video-Files play without stuttering.
Regrettably DTS-HD Files do not play properly.... no sound and stuttering Video Playback.

My Specs:
Acer Revo RL 70
1.65GHz AMD E-Series Processor E-450 (1MB total cache)
2GB DDR3 1333GHz SDRAM memory
ATI Radeon™ HD 6300 graphics
AMD A45 Fusion chipset - high-definition audio support

My Audio Reciver is an Onkyo 605 and is capable to decode DTS-HD.
I also checked this in the Audio settings.
Audio-output is HDMI
and Speaker setup 5.1

Maybe there is something wrong with the Output devices (I have now set both to HDMI Generic- trying different options didnt help)
aplay -l gives:
Quote:**** List of PLAYBACK Hardware Devices ****
card 0: Generic [HD-Audio Generic], device 3: HDMI 0 [HDMI 0]
Subdevices: 0/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 0: ALC662 rev1 Analog [ALC662 rev1 Analog]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0
card 1: SB [HDA ATI SB], device 1: ALC662 rev1 Digital [ALC662 rev1 Digital]
Subdevices: 1/1
Subdevice #0: subdevice #0

Am I missing any drivers or add-ons to play DTS-HD?

Info when playing a Video File:

Thanks in advance for your help!

***Edit: I had this issue also with Beta1

There is no HD in Linux for you, because of drivers limitation.

Is there any way to get any Sound playing? Or are my Files with DTS-HD just useless now?
So... switching to win7 or win8?

***Edit... Sorry... Just saw the info to disable everything except DTS and AC3 - Sound playing now after restarting the movie.

Read the link it tells what you get in XBMC via Linux and how to set it up in XBMC, otherwise its Windows (not that I know anything about that).

You can Get DTS 5.1 but again XBMC settings on link, go read.

You can always go have a moan @AMD for not doing proper driver support in Linux.

@zachpn:

Choose: 5.1 (more does also not work)
Enable AC3
Enable DTS
Enable Boost volume on downmix

Disable LPCM
Disable DTS-HD
Disable TrueHD
Disable AAC

TrueHD and Dts-HD will be played as Dolby Digital in this case.

And btw. to play HD video in good quality, check out this thread: http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=116996

You can easily upgrade your xbmcbuntu to this version.
First decide what functions / features you expect from a system. Then decide for the hardware. Don't waste your money on crap.

Thank you two very much, for your quick and helpful replys.

@fritsch: Yes, I have allready installed Xvba according to your tutorial. Now every File plays without stuttering.
Is Xvba acceleration also possible in Windows 7?
I wonder if I should setup my HTPC with windows, so I can use HD-Audio as well, but I am unsure if Video-playback will still work properly.

@zachpn:
No, sadly there is no XVBA on Windows 7 - but it is also not needed there. You can use DXVA-2.

@Universal:
The table looks quite right. You could write somewhere that 12.10 is a good driver, 12.9Quantal also and nobody should install anything greater - cause all are broken like hell :-(

For Fusion it is quite easy:
No Bitstreaming, only two "real channels" => 5.1 with AC3, DTS is fine - but LPCM does obviously not working, so also has to be disabled, same for the "bitstream codecs: DTS-HD, TrueHD".

Ill update wiki when I grab a minute, FYI fritsch the Linux how-to is on AE wiki page, IIRC either you or wsnipex explained the limitations of fgrlx and how-to setup and I wacked on wiki AE page, for your reference.

The table looks good but is very incomplete needs more ppls hw and setups and fixing all the ? fileds.

probably link to wiki instead of repeating yourself. Big Grin
