Movie stops in the middle of the movie and returns to menu
#31
I ran several tests on both systems now with different movies

Here's an example:

1.) On my HTPC the Zotac ND22
http://www.silverstorm.ch/temp/xbmc_zota...freeze.log
The movie froze

2.) On my main computer
http://www.silverstorm.ch/temp/xbmc_alie...freeze.log
No freeze.

In general it seems that on my main computer where I don't want to watch movies, less freezes occur and on my HTPC, more occur.
It's so difficult to test and especially to get some sense out of the logs....

@TheSingray

All the movies I tested so far are mkv files. My movie collection is about 700 movies big and 90% are mkv files. If I'd had to recode all my movies to mp4, I'd rather throw the HTPC and XBMC away.
It can't be that XBMC is not able to play mkv files properly. There are thousands of XBMC users (of course much more I guess) and somehow it seems that we are the only ones with the problem. I can't believe that all the other users just watch mp4 files.

The strange thing is that I can replay a movie which froze the first time I've watched it.... and the second time everything is fine, no freeze.

Right now what bothers me is that my main computer seems to have less troubles with XBMC than my HTPC Stare.

Anyway I don't know what else I can still do, I have no ideas anymore. I will test one of my mp4 files for you though to see if a freeze or errors occur on this file.

I've watched now several low rez movies and tv shows. None of them showed any similar issues!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know if I can pull a conclusion out of this but so I guess it's pretty likely that the problem is indeed related to MKV FILES!

I would appreciate if various people could add some information whether they also have problems with mkv files playing on XBMC.
This movie format almost established itself as a standard, so why the h. should this format cause troubles on XBMCHuh

and another movie.......................!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
http://www.silverstorm.ch/temp/xbmc_mult...d1080p.log

it's another 1080p mkv: the movie was freezing several times. Two times it returned to the menu and I had to start it again.

So really people, what's going on, do I have to throw my Zotac ND22 away and build an own HTPC with a stronger graphic card or whatever?

PS: I just post another movie log because it happened so many times in this movie. The freeze happens on any high res movie, but somehow I've lost hope that somebody wants or can help me here on these forums....

I'm also having the same issue and it's freaking annoying to say the least
However; i run a different setup than the ones mentioned above and still have the issue

my setup:
1. Synology Nas (mapped Drive)
2. HP PC connected to TV via HDMI cable
3. XBMC Eden Beta 1
4. Windows 7

my Movies and tv shows stop at a completely random times, once they do i just need to run the video again and it continues from where it stopped. but when using pseudotv it's not easy to go back to the same file
the movies and tv shows are in various formates mostly .avi and it usually happens with TV shows more often than movies.
I did a long research but never found anything useful, but i will try the solution mentioned above as soon as i get home, switching to 512mb (not sure what's it set on now, probably Auto).

Update:
Unfortunately the 512 solution did not fix the issue for me. I'm using a desktop computer and i don't have the option to edit how much ram the GPU can use. but i did check my GPU memory and it was actually 512. so I'm assuming that the issue is caused by something else for me.
any suggestions are welcome
thanks

I did link this thread in my other thread where "eskro" was able to help me, however I don't think he's here in the software forums often.

I suggest you write in my other thread or post your problem in the hardware section, since it's unlikely that it is a software issue.

What Graphics Card do you use than?

I encounter pretty much the exact same problem.. different mkv files stop playing at specific points and return to main menu. always same spots in same files.. logs look pretty much the same, could it be a bug with the ffmpeg decoder?
2x evga gtx260 's in sli mode
q6600 2.4ghz core2 quad running windows 7 x64 4gb ram (and plenty of free hdd space)

http://pastebin.com/XpN31jW5 - my log.. can post more of different times and files if it will help

Hi all.

Do not know if u all still have the same problem: Got MSGQ_ABORT or MSGO_IS_ERROR return true

I had the problem for about 6 months or so, its f****** annoying.

My setup was .
PC: Win7
2 Gb external usb Hdd.
Router from ZyXel 100 Mbit local lan.
Xbox running latest Xbmc4xbox stable.

The only thing i did was use a switch from D-link between the router and PC/Xbox.

Do not know why this works but i do not have the problem anymore.

Hope this helps.

Here we go again, about a year later with new hardware and without any problems in the past year, it starts to happen AGAIN!
The symptoms are exactly the same as they were back than.
1.) Picture freezes
2.) Movie stops between 10-30sec. after the freeze occurred and returns to menu

I'm lost here, why is this happening to me Sad

Please help anyone

Backup and update (clean install) to at least XBMC 12, then try. I would also do a benchmark on your "USB" disks.
If you have the Watchdog add-on installed, try to disable it.
The Problem is not the problem. The problem is your attitude about the problem.
Do you understand?
