Question
Hi,

I found this remote on eBay and I'm thinking about purchasing it for my future Linux based XBMC HTPC.

I wonder if it will be compatible.

Thanks for any feedback.

Rather buy this one. It comes with a HP 5188-1667 receive which is the better receiver to get.

But does this one specifically work under Linux?

Works with OpenELEC out of the box, the play-pause didn't work initially (year or so ago) now it does. It sends all the regular 'real' MCE codes so LIRC should work as well.

unless someone has it and can confirm it, we cant say...
what we can say is that these on work for sure with linux
as they have been tested
[Remote Kit] MediaGate GP-IR02BK ($25 + $0)
[Remote Kit] HP Media Center 5187-4592 ($24 + $2)

but this one should work too
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-HP-MCE-USB...856wt_1163
as the receiver model 5188-1667 should work fine in linux

This remote is becoming really hard to find. Amazon doesn't ship this remote to Canada....

Got that one too and it works well under XBMC Live and OpenELEC. Here are some of the codes from evtest (on OpenELEC).

Thanks for all the input. I think I'll go with the bigger remote.

Got a couple of references from the sig of Mr. eskro. Good starting points.
