Choppy playback on dvd and mpeg files
#1
Just installed xbmc ( Built on Oct 22 2011 (Git:20111021-79cceb5) ) on my new apple tv 2.. 4.3

When playing dvd-files iso or vob the sound and picture is choppy and alot of buffering is done (h264 works much better).

Also when playing .ts files , mpeg-files recorded from tv with a Firedtv some of the files is very choppy.

I have tested most of the combinations with same result.
SMB, NFS, uPNP, FTP , Wired and wireless, two different servers

The network is a gigabit network and bandwith is fine.

If i place the .ts file localy the picture is much better so it has something to do with network implementation.

Converting the .ts file to mkv h264 makes it play much better, guess it´s the same for .vob file.

Converting is not a real solution for me, i want it to work out if the box...

If i check the xbmc.log i can se alot of:
PHP Code:
CDVDMessageQueue(video)::Get asked for new data packetwith nothing available

What to try next?

Testfile 1 , .vob

Testfile 2 , .ts

Your 2 links to the testfiles are the same. But this ts video is interlaced. There is no possibility for doing deinterlacing in hardware on the atv2. So you should double check that you have deinterlacing method set to Auto on ATV2 (video osd ...). But it might not work stutterfree because the atv2 cpu is to weak.
