You guys are lucky! Cheapest in the UK atm is about £100 for a 2tb external. ($150)

There is the odd deal but most of the time its 1 per store etc.

I ended up buying a 2nd hand (refurb) 2TB of Ebay (UK) for £95 just so I can finish my unRAID TV show server and have one spare drive in case of failure.
Hopefully that should keep me going for a few months.

"The IHS iSuppli analysts said HDD supply issues should improve in the first quarter, with suppliers having already moved production to sites outside of Thailand. That means that with the outside production site running, once HDD facilities in Thailand ramp up to speed, there could be a glut of supply in the market for a while, they said."

Hey I said that back in October on page 4...
g725s Wrote:I bet when all this is over, months from now, there are going to be some very good pricing because these secondary places that will ramp up production and then the primary spots coming back online will make for an influx of drives parts and hopefully a nice crash in drive prices.

Mid to late 2012 will be a good time to put together that media server with many TBs of storage.

In case people were still wondering about HDD prices and production, here are a few things from Western Digital:

"IRVINE, Calif.-Jan. 23, 2012-Western Digital Corp. (NYSE: WDC) The company also announced it has made significant additional progress to restore its manufacturing capacity following the recent flooding in Thailand. It has continued to ramp HDD production in Thailand and yesterday resumed slider production which had been suspended since October 10. The company now believes its manufacturing capacity will be back to pre-flood capabilities in the quarter ending September 2012."
