Can I jailbreak and install XBMC on iOS 4,3 (8F455)?
#1
Hi,

I have bought Apple TV 2 and I am planning to use this tutorial to jailbreak this device http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=105740
and http://www.chiphazard.com/2011/06/01/jai...eze-2-7-3/

The problem is that they talk about iOS 4.2.2 and mine is:
Apple TV-software 4,3 (2557)
Os-buildversion 4,3 (8F455)

Can I use the same tutorial to jailbreak mine Apple TV 2?

I am afraid that Apple TV device won't boot anymore and becomes unusable.

Step 1: Save your SHSH Blob

Step 2: Jailbreak your ATV2 (yes, the current JB is for 4.3 (8F455) - untethered - which is what you want)

Step 3: Install XBMC on your ATV2

It's a relatively painless process - you have to be patient during the JB part though Smile

Don't worry about bricking your ATV2. It's pretty much impossible to do so. No matter how messed up it gets you can always restore back to step one by restoring it in iTunes.

Also, please read the FAQ before posting (see sticky posts at top of forum).

When installing XBMC is it necesarry to follow this step "5.Proceed to install the latest nightly build below"?
Can I stop after "apt-get install org.xbmc.xbmc-atv2" which give me the latest stable xbmc?
Or is it recommended to follow step 5 "nightly build"?

Any idea when we can expect XBMC 11.0 (next version?)

Install the latest nightly - there really isn't a stable xbmc for iOS as it's a work in progress and the version that's installed above is an old version with a lot of missing fixes.
