AMD E-350 / Radeon HD 6310 - 1080p issues?
#1
All tests and reviews I read about AMD's Brazos (E-350 dual-core with Radeon HD 6310 GPU), e.g. Zotec ZBOY-AD02, gave positive feedback compared to Atom 525 (2x) with ION 2.

Anyway, there is an AnandTech review here, which says, that the "platform is incapable of accelerating and playing back 1080p60 H.264 video." Ooops ??

There are others who mention, that at 1080p (1920x1080) is stuttering and makes no fun to watch.

So what's the truth now ? Can you prove that or dont' you have any problems with it ?

Is 1080p working flawlessly ? Even at 60Hz ?

I'm running the ASRock E-350 board with XBMC pre-Eden and 1080p plays just fine with hardware acceleration turned on. There's a bit more to getting it to work under Linux than with Windows 7, but it's doable in both.

Typically 1080p60 is what you'd get when recording video on a HD camcorder or DSLR. This is not to be confused with 1080p bluray which is typically 1080p24. I used an e-350 in my HTPC for 6 months and I never had a single problem playing 1080p24 content. I never tried to play any 1080p60 content so I can't comment on that. In general, if you're talking about just playing back movies (i.e. motion pictures) or recorded TV (SD or HD) then, based on my experiences, the e-350 will do that just fine.

Media server: unraid 4.7 | CPU | MB | RAM | Case | PSU | HDDs: Parity-2TB, Data-2x2TB

Thanks, I think most problems are based on not turning on hardware acceleration.

But I still need to know how 1080p60Hz works. There are lot of MKVs running 60Hz mode, and NTSC blu-ray should do so well. So 60Hz mode is quite important for me.

I forgot to tell you, that mostly I look full 1080P rip of a BD. AND...I'm a click away from ordering a Zotac AD02 ! That's why these questions are so important for me now.

Thank you..

MKV is just a container. You still need to look at the underlying format of the video. Most of the 60Hz 1080 video I've seen is actually 1080i60 and not 1080p60. Again, I believe that 1080p60 is specific to HD home videos and maybe perhaps anime (although I'm not totally sure on that). The more common 1080 video formats are either 1080i60 (HDTV in the US) or 1080p24 (motion pictures).

That could be true concerning MKV. Sure... Anyway, there still is the question, if AMD's Brazos is capable of playing 1080p/60 ...

1080p @ 60hz refresh rate? YES, quite easily.

Wait for XBMC Eden Live, which will support E-350 hardware acceleration through VAAPI. Should be out in the next couples of week. With the Dharma release, it's a pain to configure XBMC with the E-350 (I think it's still impossible with XBMC Live, you'll need to use a Linux distro and compile some programs <- needs to be confirmed though).

Alternatively, you could check OpenElec, which has support for the E-350 "out of the box".
