One quick question, Davilla or Gimli when you next pop in. Was the board used in your video 128mb?
Keep up the good work

Oh, I stand corrected, my bad Smile How well does the pi handle large lists(for instance, my music collection is >20000 songs, and would cause XBMC to hang upon opening.

Sorry if answering so many questions gets annoying, but these are hardly things I can google for and I'm excited Tongue

I was wondering if you could use powered usb-hubs to extend the max. amount of usb-ports ?

As far as I understand it, thats what you're expected to do on the pi in order to have more peripherals.

No. 128MB of ram is not enough to run XBMC.

I bought my future Pi case the other week, and ive been planning what i'll do with it, how it'll fit in and what little mods i can do to it to spice it up a little.

Its a 100 x 76 x 36mm case, 2mm glossy plastic, and cost an extortionate £4.30 ($6ish) Big Grin so at least if i botch it up i can replace it or rethink the design without costing a fortune.

The Pi Board is a very basic (as you can tell) mock up for the time being, the sketchup model wouldnt import accurately (unless its 82m in length!) so its a 95% accurate mock-up to try and figure out how things will fall into place and whether i need to make modifications to the casing beyond holes for cables to get in/out.
I cant do complicated shapes just yet, so the berries are all ive added for now, eventually i'll put the slightly simplified logo seen in the corner into the lid, some coloured acrylic behind it and some red & green LEDs and hopefully it'll make the case look a little special... and then it'll be hidden behind a tv for years probably Big Grin

Pretty sure the green acrylic will cost more than the case, already have a sheet of 2mm red, clear, black and chrome. Would like to try and include an XBMC logo in there too, but that might be too hard Sad

guys, have you tried running it on hdmi power only? With 2W it should be perfectly OK to ditch the USB.

50mA @5V, I don't think that quite cuts it.

In HDMI the _source_ has to provide 5V, so it's not possible to power a source _from_ HDMI. This might seem a bit odd, but it's a legacy of using the same control interface as VGA - it allows the source to query available resolutions even if the sink is off.

MHL (Mobile Hi-definition Link) can supply power, and some TVs are going to start having MHL enabled HDMI ports - these would allow the TV to power the source (for example the recently announced Roku streaming stick needs an MHL HDMI port).

Brilliant work on the XBMC port Davilla / Gimli!

welshblob Wrote:Given that, to the best of my knowledge, there is no native support for xvid etc. does this mean that this will be offloaded to the CPU and is the CPU on the RPi man enough to do this decoding?

This is a good question - I too would be very interested to know if / how well this will work.

Keep up the great work!
