XBMC framedrops on every movie
#1
Hi

Since september builds my XBMC drops frames on each HD mkv movie. My connection is fine as I am connecting to my NAS over a cable. I tried restoring and setting up from the beginning but same situation. Any ideas? It is very annoying as in every 30-40 seconds few frames are dropped so it lookes like the movie is slowing down. Anybody else has the same problem?
I'm using 4.3 ios, before was on 4.2 and same situation (I'm using ftp protocol as on smb it keeps buffering)

Sounds like there must be something wrong with the MKV movies. What about other formats? Do you have the same problems with them? MKV plays fine here withe the latest nightly build.

make sure you are running the latest nightly builds and give us a log file: http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=HOW...og_for_iOS

I doubt as it happens on every mkv - tv shows (for exampleby immerse), movies, just everything. It started when I upgraded to one nightly back in september I think, but till then I already erased everything, restored to newer ios and installed xbmc from scratch. still same.
Anyways will post log and we'll see.

Dear Ned,

This is log: http://pastebin.com/wUsypmU8

What I saw during those frame drops that FPS is goingfrom stable 24 to 23.2, 23.3 but I don't know if it's the problem as so little framedrop shouldn't be visible by a naked eye. Or maybe I'm wrong.

BUMP. Any news for this issue? Movies are unwatchable because of this problem Sad

you could try playing with the audio/video sync settings if you didn't already. Nothing obvious in the logfile ...

Tried it before and it was better I think, but when i tried today on a nightly it's much worse than without. This is a really weird issue and I cannot see where is the problem. Tried over ftp, tried over samba (btw, on newest nightly no buffering anymore, this is great).
Problem is that I removed everything and installed stable xbmc which was working before and still the same. Maybe I'm changing some option everytime which I'm not aware of (but tried them all already I think). Maybe it has something to do with TXT subtitles?
And to note - I'm an advanced user, using XBMC since the first xbox so I doubt it's a PEBKAC...

Also to be 100% sure will try to stream from a PC instead of media center. I upgraded firmware there somewhere in september, but frankly speaking cannot see a problem there as I'm only streaming using ftp and samba (on my media center there is a normal linux installed so I can modify whatever I want).

I think I will record a youtube video to show this effect so you will see what I am talking about.

Hi,

I was also experiencing a few glitches/stuttering during movies, and was quite mad at my ATV2. However, after a lot of self-research, I discovered that in fact it was my Samsung LED TV which was causing the problems.

The motion engine was on, and it did not play nice with xbmc and streaming. As soon as i turned this completely off, the "glitching" dissappeared.

However, I still am suffering from buffering issues with my XBMC connected to AFP to my Time Capsule. Have yet to find a sollution for this. (have tried the "audio fix", buffering size, wired, static IP ....).

Ok so what I did - I changed A/V sync to Audio Clock and it gives best results. Drops are rare now and much shorter (like 1/3 of second every 10-20 minutes). Any ideas why it helped and why it's worse without it?

Yes I have the exact same issue as you. I've also noticed that it is minimized when turning on turning on A/V sync to the Audio Clock.

It's very slight and I think a lot of people probably don't notice it. But there is definitely slight frame-dropping that you can notice during a slight pan every once in awhile.

Thanks for this!

So as I am not only one who's encountering this problem how can I help to eliminate it? This is a question to mods. I already sent you logs but nothing unusual there. Any other idea how can I help? If any of you lives in Dubai I can invite you to my home and you will be able to see this on your own eyes :-)

I have read on some other posts that this might be related to subtitle rendering. Out of curiosity, is this happening to you with subtitles enabled? Have you tried without them?

Namecaps I went through the same exercise few days/week ago Smile wouldn't you mind to test within your setup those test video files from bigbuckbunny website? It might be easier to find where the issue might be if everyone will use same test files.

(Reported and tested here - http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=113745) and downloadable from here http://www.bigbuckbunny.org/index.php/download/

You want to test H.264 which is natively supported by aTV hardware.

Cheers,
