PC Games via network here?

I had a play with some games on my HTPC using wireless 360 pad the other day just try it out (mainly used consoles before).
I've got a 40GB SSD in each HTPC and play media via network shares. How well do games run over a network? Can games like Call of Duty or Crysis work OK or do some more demanding games need the content stored locally?
