Looking for IR receiver/transmitter
#1
Hello everyone,

I've started using the XBMC Android remote on my phone a while ago. I love the fact that I control almost everything using only my phone. But... recently I thought I'd also like to turn on/off my TV using my phone or to turn on/off/control my Logitech 5.1 setup using the phone.

So my idea was so get an IR receiver/transmitter which allows to "record" the commands of the respective remote controls of the TV/audio/whatever. I'd then connect to my HTPC with my phone (I can turn on the HTPC with wake on LAN) and send these recorded commands from the IR transmitter connected to the HTPC to my other stuff. I'm not sure if such an app already exists for Android, but I was planning to give it a shot myself if not.

However, I'm finding it difficult to find a suitable IR device.. This is what I've come over:
1) IRTrans: http://www.irtrans.com/en/shop/usb.php Seems to do exactly what I'm looking for, however the sheer range of products confuses me, and even the USB version costs 100 Euros which seems to be quiet expensive.
2) USBUIRT: http://www.usbuirt.com/ Again, seems to do exactly what I want, however I'm reluctant to import it over from the states to Europe (70$ plus probably some ridiculous taxes).
3) Tira 2.1: http://www.home-electro.com/tira2.php (no official homepage?). I actually found this for 65 Euros at Amazon Germany. Seems to offer the functionality I'm looking for.

Has anyone used one of the devices listed above? Or are there other suggestions to what device I could use (maybe something even cheaper is available? It seems to me 65 Euros for a simple IR receiver/transmitter is still rather expensive).

Also, 2) and 3) seem to require a software called "Grider" to "record" IR codes. It this always necessary for recording? Are there free alternatives?

Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

edit: Logitech Harmony Link: http://www.logitech.com/en-us/remotes/un...rmony-link Also looks interesting. However, not available in Europe yet.. I'm also wondering if it can only be controlled via the Logitech app or if it can also be accessed differently (like the others above).
