Here's a weird situation ...

I just pulled my working maveric with 2012/04/26 git compiled version to test a new oneiric install with the ppa xbmc. Followed the guide which is excellent BTW. Everything goes in cleanly.

But xbmc won't autostart. With upstart starting xbmc it winds up with a defunct X sitting there, no X screen or anything else. If I start it with "sudo start xbmc" it does the same thing. No logs are generated in /var/log/Xorg.0.log

Yet if I start it manually with "runXBMC" it comes right up as expected, and it leaves good information in /var/log/Xorg.0.log.

Very weird. I use the same setup on my maveric install, and that works fine. Any ideas ?

VAAPI seems completely broken here, you can't start a movie at all, the video doesnt even start showing.
If you turn off VAAPI, everything seems fine

Did some more testing on this, seems like it might be an issue with the offical xbmc build on ubuntu 12.04.

Mplayer vaapi just works fine, but xbmc fails to bring up any video at all.

Submitted a bug report http://trac.xbmc.org/ticket/12970

Exactly the same issue here.........

i am ready to migrate to 12.04 but xbmc seems not FrownFrown

hope a fix will come quicly

I've found this workaround amongst the replies for the bug report. It works for me.

"I was having the same problem as listed here, but found a workaround.

I removed the team-xbmc ppa and installed nathan-renniewaldock ppa and vaapi worked great.

Sorry guys, but absolutely no time to debug.
You can also try to start things with sudo start xbmc if that works there should be some timing problem when booting.

Always read the XBMC online-manual, FAQ and search the forum before posting.
Do not e-mail XBMC-Team members directly asking for support. Read/follow the forum rules.
For troubleshooting and bug reporting please make sure you read this first.

the official debian/ubuntu package uses external libs, which might cause the problem with vaapi.

I tried the official xbmc ubuntu 12.04 install. Did not work at all with vaapi. Compiled xbmc from sources work excellent, and also the repo above. I guess it's something wrong with the official files in the ubuntu repo.

Hallo guys,

I have a problem with the music library. After scanning my music folder all the music is shown in the library. But after two or three restarts of xbmc the library disappears. Even if I try to import the library from the xml-file (before I did an musiclibrary export) nothing happens.

After I rescaned the music the same problem appears again. After several restarts the library is gone.

I installed ubuntu 12.04 from the mini.iso but I had the same problem with ubuntu 11.04. My music folders are above 72 gb large. Maybe this cause the problem?

Unfortunately I am a linux noob. I tried to find the mymusic.db with "ls mymusic*.db". But that didn't worked at all.

For any help I would be very lucky!!!

And thanx alanwww1 for this fantastic guide!!!!

open up a new threat, this is offtopic, and post a debug log... I have several hundred GB in my music lib without any issues.
