One of the advantages of this mod is that there was no metal work involved (the case is unmodified except for the 4 holes to mount the fan assembly to the side, and I could have do it without any mods at all if I had thought about it a little more first). What I really wanted to do was take a fan that was about the same size as the hole in the side of the case and put those items together just because it seemed like someone should do it - everything else was just an exercise in problem solving to achieve that goal.
