My guess is that the Boxee tuner is a re-badged tuner from Hauppauge or ATI. It's likely to work with Linux, but obviously we won't know until we get one for ourselves, or get some more info on the device. XBMC PVR support is another question, it's still a bit unstable for me and I believe a post-Eden feature.
