I put the new CPU cooler in today so my build is finally done. Thanks again for your help.

ASRock MB-A75M ($75)
AMD A8-3850 APU ($125)
Silverstone ML03B ($65)
Silverstone 400W PSU ($49)
Patriot Memory Torqx 2 Series 64 GB SSD ($65 after MIR)
Kingston Technology HyperX Blu 8GB 1333MHz DDR3 CL9 ($41)
Scythe Big Shuriken 2100 ($53)
Logitech K400 ($40)
HP MCE Remote & IR Receiver ($21)
Coolink PWM Case Fan ($13)

Total = $547.

Slightly more than I originally wanted to spend but it was well worth the money. The case fan and CPU cooler are ridiculously quiet with the speed scaled down and everything runs nice and cool. Plus I was able to use the stock APU cooler in my desktop which reduced noise as I was able to take advantage of the PWM function.

@lath.....
Very nice and very powerful HTPC....you'll enjoy it for a long time. If you're ready to mess around with XBMC for bitstreaming HD audio, you can check my signature......

Hello people of the XBMC forum!
I too have used this form for a guide, to buid my first real HTPC. Can say that the Silverstone ML03B is a beautiful and a Scythe Shuriken fits right in. I have the A8-3870 installed and it is working fine with XBMCbuntu (so far) for power i have chosen a Be-Quiet Pure Power L7 350W (from a friends recommendation) and it is also quiet! Smile

I am still missing a IR reciver to work with my Harmony One remote, still looking for the right solution.

All in all I to will recommend this build for a first timer, and it seems to be open for customization, I'm thinking installing PVR in the furture if everything goes well Wuhu.!

aside from RAM/SSD and power cord not sold with the psu is there anything else that would be required to go live and is it essentially plug/play install os? any required heatsink/fan/coolant would come with the cpu/psu? need to do the thermal paste thing?

[CPU+iGPU] AMD A8-3850 4x2.9GHz HD6550D FM1 100W ($135 + $0)
[MOBO] ASRock A75M FM1 CIR USB3.0 SATAIII UEFI μATX ($75 + $0)
[CASE] SILVERSTONE ML03B μATX ($60 + $0)

XtuX, you're running XBMCbuntu from USB on an AMD A8? Has the issue with support for the A8 been addressed then? I see in eskro's first post, he warns that:

Q. Out of those builds, which one can be used with XBMCbuntu (Linux)?
A. Except the A6 & A8 builds, all of them!!

Also, what are you using the SSD for if you're booting from the USB stick? Or did you install from the USB stick to the SSD? Thanks.

Well, yes I used the USB to install on SSD, booting also works for me, but I like having the OS install on a harddrive.
Only problem I have seen so far is the sound acting op for 5sec when starting a movie or jumping forward in one. Other than that it runs great and handels 1080p just fine and cool.

FYI. the sound problem does not appear when booting tin XBMCbuntu mode and playing movies in VLC player so it seems to be aXBMC related problem. I'm planning to try to install normal ubuntu on it and install xbmc ontop late to se if that works, or do some more testing in xbmvubuntu mode, in that way i might have more control of the sound driver installed.

this is the measurements from the specs (86.0 mm Height x 150.0 mm Width x 140.0 mm Depth) so my depth is 5 1/2 inchs

is that going to be to tight
