Hi all. Building my first HTPC. I want to be able to game with thing, hence the higher specs than necessary for a straight HTPC for XBMC.

[Case] SILVERSTONE Grandia Series GD05B - $85
[CPU] AMD PHENOM II X4 830 – OEM - $50
[Mobo] ASRock 880GM-LE - $55
[GPU] Galaxy GTS 450 - $60
[PS] OCZ ModXStream Pro 500W Modular - $40
[Memory] Kingston HyperX blu 8GB DDR3-1600 - $40
[SSD] Patriot Pyro 60GB - $106
[CPU Cooler] Scythe SCSK-1100 Shuriken Rev B 3 - $35

Total Cost = $471 after rebates

Any thoughts on things to change, etc.?

Your build looks solid to me. Depending on your game selections, you might want to move up higher on the GPU and maybe an additional disk space.

That card looks pretty good. I may have to get a bigger PS.

Also can anyone tell me the typical power consumption of a rig like this when sitting at idle?

Also it is feasible to put this into hibernate mode after inactivity for X time? Can it wake up from this mode (with an SSD) in a decent amount of time? I'd rather not turn this off every time I am done using it.

with less power consumption than gts 450 and very similar performance, this one might fit your bill- HIS H675FS1G Radeon HD 6750 1GB 128-bit DDR3 PCI Express 2.1 x16.

GeForce GTS 450 1GB vs Radeon HD 6750 1GB

the nvidia gts 450 might run into macroblocking problem during ff/rw!

since he is very selective and saving in mind, i doubt that he'll need $140 gpu!

since this thread in here has been covering his GPU needs, maybe we can focus on the other parts of the HTPC on this one.

i understand the saving part, but when someone squeeze in gaming factor,
depending on the games the op wants to run,
i mean, in the $120 range, the powercolor HD6870 rocks!!

PowerColor HD6870 900MHz CoreClock 1120 StreamCores 1050MHz MemoryClock 1GB DDR5 256-Bit
