MKV Files showing -01:-02 as video length
#1
Hi,
I have 2 mkv files that show a negative video length in xbmc.
One starts up fine, about 13 minute in, it shows the negative time.
I can view the whole movie fine. Just that when you stop it , you cannot resume correctly since the time is ok. Same for going to the next chapter....

Both has been encoded from the original DVDs using Handbrake High Profile Setting under Linux.

I have encoded several using this method, I checked about 50 in xbmc and they are fine..

XBMC 10.01 "Dharma" under Windows XP.

When I load up the mkv in VLC.. The total time works fine.

Any ideas on how to fix this ?.

Thanks!

I've seen this a couple of times myself. I usually try to reencode the mkv file in handbrake and if that doesn't work go back to the DVD and try again with different settings. Sometimes handbrake can't read the file properly either and have to use AviDemux.

Hi,
Sorry for the late reply. I have found a solution.
As you suggested, i did the re-encode from the DVD. That did not work.

I did some research and found the following solution.

On Linux, I installed the mkvmerge GUI (part of MKVToolNix I believe).

1. Start the application.
2. Click Add and add the troublesome MKV.
3. Make sure that all tracks are still checked.
4. Change the output filename to moviename_remux.mkv
5. Click "Start Muxing"

After it was completed, I tried the file in XBMC and no more problems.

I did this for 3 or 4 Movies and all seems fine!
Hope this helps others!

Thanks!
