Music library scan / folder access causes crash
#1
I recently had the database corruption issue, and decided to take the opportunity to switch to NFS rather than SMB. So I rescanned my libraries. No problems with TV or Film, but music library scanning causes a crash. Before I continue, I'm just going to say that I don't think NFS is the problem, as the problem is reproducible using SMB as well.

Platform: Apple TV 2
iOS version: 4.1.1
XBMC build: XBMC PRE-11.0 Git:20111204-3943772 (Compiled Dec 5 2011)

As mentioned above, I first noticed the problem on scanning the music folder to the library. It scans the first few folders OK, but once it reaches an album in the 22-20s artist folder then it crashes back to lowtide.

Debug log: http://pastebin.com/NrwmH06v
Crash Reporter log: http://pastebin.com/4GKBXqwq
Syslog snippet: http://pastebin.com/4JpFJL4E

I then tried to access the folder on which the scan fails through the files menu. This also causes a crash.

Debug log: http://pastebin.com/BETJ25rV
Crash Reporter log: http://pastebin.com/8fvmXRxg
Syslog snippet: http://pastebin.com/PNHkQs6J

Any ideas what's causing this?

I am experearing the similarity with AFP share. Same symptoms in both above cases.

Hi,

Same issue for me on SMB - been meaning to grab the crashlogs, but haven't been near the computer for a little while to grab them from the ATV.

The one that I did see was clearly an exception in the libid3tag module..

Will make an effect to post my logs too..

which NSF server are you running ? and try removing exposed.

I'm using a Netgear ReadyNAS Duo for my media. The NFS server that's running is just whatever comes as standard on that device (don't know more detail than that I'm afraid). As I said in the first comment though; I'm not sure how relevant the NFS part is because it's reproducible if SMB is used. And presuming chomper's problem is the same then the same thing happens when using AFP as well.

Your first syslog doesn't have enough info (needs 100 more lines at the start imho).

The second syslog has something like this direct before the crash:

Code:
91.Dec  5 18:46:28 Apple-TV AppleTV[218]: +[<ATVSWUpdateCheckTask: 0x3e4594a4> _shouldPerformCheck]

This MIGHT be the update check from apple. The second crashreporter log also crashes in a thread which doesn't belong to XBMC ... so this would harden that theory...

And as already menitioned - remove that exposed crap...

Thanks for taking a look Memphiz

Sorry about that. I can update this post with a more extensive syslog, but I don't think I'll be giving you any more info than you've already got. The first syslog follows on directly from the second (I recorded the logs the opposite way around to the order which I described them in in the first post).
[EDIT: extended syslog file: http://pastebin.com/zinQ2u5H ]

I've already run updatebegone and modified the etc/hosts file. I've been running XBMC perfectly fine with no update interruption for months. Also, this problem is fully reproducible on an event within XBMC (accessing that folder). I might be wrong, but don't the update attempts occur after a given time rather than in association with a specific event within XBMC?

Also, the line of the syslog that you have quoted occurs before XBMC is even opened (syslog line is at 18:46:28, XBMC opened 18:46:33). The next instance of this line occurs shortly after the XBMC crash, and after the crashreporter log was made.

This problem started when I updated to the 5th Dec build. I think the version that I was running before that was from around the start of Nov, but I can't remember for sure.

***EDIT***

Removed the Exposed VNC server via NitoTV. Makes no difference to the crashes.

I'm running into similar problems.

At first I thought it was the artwork.downloader script, so i disabled it. then it seemed to be certain files (and it still does)... but why?

Here's my debug log:http://pastebin.com/Qzv9hvW4

Running:
ATV 2
Latest Nightly builds -- i can say that this is a new issue. but I don't know at which build this has started.
IOS 4.3

Seems to be something with the way XBMC is closing the files:
Code:
10:38:44 T:152023040   DEBUG: CFileSMB::Open - opened music/Alicia Keys/Songs In A Minor/01 Piano And I (Intro).mp3, fd=10000
10:38:44 T:152023040   DEBUG: CFileSMB::Close closing fd 10000
10:38:44 T:152023040   DEBUG: CFileSMB::Open - opened music/Alicia Keys/Songs In A Minor/02 Girlfriend.mp3, fd=10000
10:38:44 T:152023040   DEBUG: CFileSMB::Close closing fd 10000

I installed some older build that I had been using
xbmc-20111119-f8d48da-master-atv2.deb
and I don't face the crash anymore...
