This is not really an XBMC specific issue, but a question about an XBMC related use-case (though very elaborate). I've got an Ubuntu 11.10 box on which I'm attempting to map various audio channels across multiple, physical outputs.
Specifically, I'd like to have the L/C/R and LFE channels passed though the onboard SPDIF port, then send the RL/RR channels out the analog ports. Bonus points for adding the additional side channels for 7.1 speakers setup. I know that it's theoretically possible using Pulse, but given how much of a pain it was to get audio working in the first place on my box, I thought I'd ask the experts before I start playing around with config files and custom devices.
