A debug log should show why the attempt to save the resume point is failing.

Keep in mind that resume times are saved after the first couple of mins are played. If you stopp after 1 min or so it won't get saved ...

So decided to do something about this problem.

1) I ran a brand new scraped file.

2) Skipped to 6 mins in.

3) Pressed X to stop the film.

4) Exited XBMC.

5) Checked the servers MySQL DB Table Bookmarks, and noticed a new entry for the new film.

5) Started XBMC.

6) Selected the movie again but wasnt asked if i wanted to resume, just started from the beginning.

So its not a database issue, but maybe a nightly issue.

I'll download a new version now to see if that will fix it.

UPDATE: Yep, just as I thought... New nightly (10th) gives me resume options.
