When using vdpau with mainline version you'll observe video stuttering every now and then, in particular when playing interlaced content. Bringing up any kind of dialog (while playing video) most likely results in some dropped frames. The list of flaws is much longer. I have rewritten vdpau but this work is not in mainline version yet.

compiling xbmc from source is not a big deal.

I think wsnipex was referring to a bug in fglrx that was mentioned there. all drivers released by AMD in a year are just crap.

I see, thanks for clearing that up. So my best bet is to use the ubuntu provided fglrx 9.0 driver?

I tried 13.6b earlier today, the menus felt more sluggish than the latest driver. Both still have 100% cpu load for me though, but only on the main screen, if I'm deeper in a tvshow or movie selection it's like 5% idle.
I guess I have to live with that.
Video playback seems to be working fine for me.

Read some pages back... if it is the same as the ogl 4.3 Version, you will have high CPU load again.
So report back, please.
PS: what i find funny, Jammy exactly named the bugs as i reported them.

I recently installed the 3.11 kernel, OSS drivers from mesa git, etc on a A8-5500 (Debian Testing 64 bit, xfce 4.10).
VDPAU works with xbmc, i hit a few issues:
-changing resolution runtime (fullscreen->windowed or viceversa) results in black screen (sounds are playing) - have to kill xbmc from a tty to get control of X back. If i pause before, i can change resolution and can resume play.
-some h264 encoded clips dont work well (stuttering, really low framerate, etc) - maybe not working files could be handled with disabling hardware decoding runtime (and resuming from last frame) if there are issues with playback?
PS i know that VDPAU is at basic level with radeon OSS and i dont know such bugs where should be reported - its xbmc or the drivers fault?
