[ATV2] Bad image quality in large coloured surfaces
#1
I recently upgraded from an older nightly build (somewhere around 9/11) to a more recent one about 2 weeks ago (to fix issues with XBMC commander).
Now my picture quality on larger coloured surfaces is looking really bad. I tried multiple recent nightlies and all seem to have the same behavior. Of course I tried multiple movies and files, but the problem is visible in all of them.

I can't revert back to the older nightly for comparison shots but I've included a photo of my TV screen (ATV2) and one of my iPad at full brightness showing the same scene of CSI Miami (WEB-DL).

Here is the picture on the ATV2:

And here the same frame at iPad (picture is a bit blurry on account of me trying to prevent glare and turning down the lights):

Hope anyone can help me with the fix for this!

That dithering issue. I thought it was fixed a while back (the 9-11 build, actually). Can you give us a debug log?

Yeah I actually had a dithering problem before that was indeed fixed with the 9-11 build, but this time it's a different (less anoying) issue. My previous fixed problem was @ http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=109467

My log file is @ http://www.customsurf.nl/xbmc.log

The CSI ep starts at 16.53

Yes, debugging mode wasn't turned on.

Settings -> System -> Debugging

I appreciate your patience Ned. Sorry about the confusion. I just posted a new logfile with the debugging turned on. I watched some CSI Miami again that had the real bad image quality. Hope this log will help to determine the problem:

No worries.

Is this happening on all of your videos or just the CSI ones? Does the XBMC GUI have this same issue?

It happens on all/most video's but its very obvious in these CSI eps. As the picture show its only visible in large unicoloured surfaces. I think thats why the gui is ok.
Same eps on iPad look much better.

cut a sample (50-100MBs), make sure the sample show the issue. dropbox it so I can get it.

I cut a sample of the scene in the pictures above. It's @ http://dl.dropbox.com/u/16719172/CSI%20M...29-002.mkv

20 seconds in, the scene as shown in my first post, starts. I tried the scene on my iPad and iMac and it plays fine, just the grainy quality on the atv2.

Can someone send me a link to the 9-11 nightly?. I suspect the image quality problem occurred after that version. I'd like to test that.
