@eskro I am thinking of going with a Harmony remote instead of a IR tiny keyboard after reading this thread.

I like being able to use the Esc key in XBMC, and like the C for the context menu a keyboard provides. How difficult would it be to program the Harmony to do something a $30 remote/keyboard does out of the box? trying to assess the level of effort vs $$.

Its easy. You can setup the harmony to act exactly like a keyboard using the 'MCE keyboard' device. This then allows you to program any button on the logitech remote to any keyboard key.

For example you set the 'exit' button to the 'esc' key, 'pause' to 'space', etc.

More information is here

Thanks - the excuse I was looking for.
Btw @eskro the spare parts box that my 11y/o daughter and I built with spare parts and a 210 nvidia card is running great. She always is telling my wife we are watching her machine.

Hi. I have one of these cheap pc remote controls.

http://www.amazon.com/Wireless-USB-Remot...28&sr=8-16

It works ok with xbmc in general. But, now I want to buy a Harmony 650 to replace all 4 controls I have in my living room.

My question is ... would the IR usb reciever that came with the pc remote control work with the harmony ? or do I have to buy one of those HP MCE IR recvs? Huh

I think the Boxee remote should be added as it is both functional and very easy to setup.

EDIT: It has been discontinued so it is difficult to find one for sale now.

fyi they are taking pre-orders on the Nyxboard.
http://pulse-eight.com/store/products/96...ybrid.aspx

Quote:Now Taking Pre-Orders, shipping week commencing 5th March!!!

We are expecting new revised models from Motorola during the first full week of March. If you purchase now, you are paying in advance for a pre-order, you are welcome to cancel your order at any time up until we ship. We will keep all customers advised of the latest information regarding the delivery date.
The NYXboard Hybrid has gone through an internal hardware revision to correct issues a few customers were experiencing from the first batch of remotes. These issues have now been resolved.
