Has anyone looked into addons which stream from sites who require a monthly fee, yet are serving up illegal streams?
IMO these are rather dangerous as they look legit to the average user, but the site has no rights to re-distribute, but yet is there making a profit.. these sites are fairly obvious to spot with their not so legal disclaimers
As far as piracy goes, I have big problems with profiting - charging money (ad revenue aside) from users, which potentially puts those users at risk since they are handing over credit card #'s etc. transaction records would be snagged the minute a site is busted
XBMC addon's helping gain more paid subscribers could be very dangerous

Good for Team XBMC taking a stance against piracy. I hope they don't go around pointing fingers at who will get their blessings or not when it comes to open discussion of development on their platform though... that would be heading towards bureaucracy and I'm no fan of that.

Okay so:
iceFilms accessed through iceFilms plugin = not okay IceFilms accessed through Navi-X plugin = okay There is clearly no actual standard being used to make these calls, at least not one based on the new policy. Anyone who claims otherwise is flat out lying or not understanding of the definitions and reasons given by the TEAM. I UNDERSTAND MAKIN THE CALL. I don't understand not standing by it. |

Dude, icefilms is just a fraction of Navi-X. Not its's sole purpose. Didn't you read the thread?

Indeed it is just a fraction, in fact Navi-X provides a many more sources of illegal stuff to download, if anything it is a worse offender than the Icefilms plugin. Are you saying that if the Icefilms plugin also provided access to legal streams such as the Abbey Road and Niagra Falls webcams, then it would be okay? This difference in stance between these 2 plugins alone goes to show that this policy simply isn't going to work and need a rethink. |

Quote:Megaupload, one of the internet's largest file-sharing sites, has been shut down by officials in the US. and this is why you can't rely on sites like icefilms, now that addon is completely useless since 99% of links were from megaupload. I know some people even bought accounts on there! now they are screwed. |

And it's a good example of why this thread was started. We don't want the same thing to happen to XBMC!
