MU abided by DMCA takedown notices and co-operated with rights holders, and they were shut down for "piracy".

There are no rules you can follow when it comes to this. They're out of control.

IceFilms stored thousands of illegal files on MegaUpload and nobody took them down. So how exactly was MU abiding to the DMCA ?

MegaUpload did comply. If they received a takedown request the files would be removed. This is why icefilms used captcha's. It prevents film studios from using bots to detect illegal content. This limited the number of takedown requests because they couldn't use an automated system to detect illegal content.

meh who cares, sites like icefilms were never going to last. same thing happened with ninjavideo, it got too popular then got shut down.

i can guarantee there will be another site that rises and becomes popular and everyone will forget about icefilms and move on....and then that site will get shutdown!

but this is going off topic, id be happy with developers making addons from legit sources that will last longer.

Whew. Just like all that fad 'torrenting' stopped when ******** was taken down.

Trying to stop piracy is up there with drug prohibition. It doesn't work. Spend your money elsewhere.

dont panic sopa did lost somehow his position and the sopa pipa thing dropped from the table... before changing everything ... just see how its goign to be in abouth few weeks..

there are many many addons scraping legit sources. perfect quality, latest releases, specials etc. but...unlike "piracy sites", which are free to use from anywhere in the world, legit sources are accessible from just a handful of places. The vast majority are US-locked.

and junk like HULU etc wont work outside of USA without a proxy anyhow.

I noticed that most links to ligit files for download have been uploaded
to megaupload which has been shutdown for many illegal activities.
I know people here have used it as a means of sharing images, scripts
etc over the years, my question is this since those sites have some
associationg with illegal activities wouldn't such links etc on the forums
also jerpordize our beloved XBMC because of any aassociation with
those sites within the forum if such a bill was ever to pass? I am grateful
to everyone that took a stance against the bill, but this is just the beginning
and will will continuously have to confront them, I just don't want to see
any hickups along the way forward stunting the development, or casing
it to cease to exist in the future because of something being ill thought
out.
