Is there a way to read the "Album Artist" tag instead of the "Artist" tag?

Is there a way for XBMC to look in the Album Artist tag for music files? Having a bunch of compilations with a bunch of artists make my artist list incredibly big.

Is there a way to switch this?

No idea, but if you find out, please post here! Really really annoying.

Bump for this, as I would like to know this as well. Compilations really mess up the artist list.

A lot has been changed in upcoming Frodo edition concerning music database.
Not sure if this was changed as well.

http://wiki.xbmc.org/index.php?title=Settings/Music - Go to Settings -> Music -> Library and make sure the "include artists who appear only on compilations" is NOT enabled.

I do not know if setting the option is the only required step or if you need to Clean Library or if you need to rescrape. Try the least intrusive method first and go from there.

Thanks. I totally missed that option.

And for the record, you do NOT have to re-scrape. Nice.

Not sure if this gets rid of the need to use Album Artist or not, but this works for me for now.
